Mission Codename The Other Cab
Sound the alarm! Cab Franc fans, your day has come!
Literally. It’s Cabernet Franc day - a time to celebrate this criminally overlooked grape. And we’re here for it, with a criminally underpriced example from one of our favorite producers - Hook & Ladder.
Already reasonably priced at full retail, but we squeezed an extra 44% discount out of it, bringing it down to $19.
You might recognize the DeLoach name. They sold their winery years ago. But they couldn’t shake that winemaking itch, so they started a label named after the fire station where Cecil DeLoach was stationed in San Francisco. If you have been around, you know they have a stronghold in the Russian River Valley. And the Chalk Hill AVA, carved out of the northeast corner of the region, well the small area hosts a couple of big names like Chalk Hill Estate and Rodney Strong. The name itself comes from the chalky white volcanic ash found in the soil, not actual chalk…
Ultra rich, round, and BIG. Not at all meek, it brings quite a load of extracted fruit and rich oak into focus. It comes packed with black cherry jam and sweet baking spices. Now throw in some tobacco leaf, red currants, raspberry extract, and vanilla bean paste. Maybe a twist of licorice and a smidge of savory herbs, too. NFor the price, you’ll LOVE it, no doubt. Enjoy with a multitude of food pairing options or on its own.
Savvy operatives know H&L produces some exceptional value wines. For $19 the quality here is simply astounding. Obviously, we already loaded up a few cases on our end. Now it’s your turn!
