Mission Codename Yin & Yang

Beyond thrilled about this one Operatives!

On the heels of that Schrader deal comes this stunner from the the top dog himself, Thomas Rivers Brown. How do we even do it?? We love every wine we bring you, but sometimes they hit different - and this one goes straight to the core of our wine soaked hearts.

Here’s the Mending Wall formula. Take three extraordinary visionaries and throw them into a collaboration where 1+1+1 = 5. We’re talking owners behind Outpost, Pulido-Walker and Rivers-Marie, wineries that hit 97-100 points with such regularity you’d think it was some kind of vinous fiber. And all this thanks to the common denominator of Thomas Rivers Brown.

Wine Advocate had broken the news on this sizzling hot cult project as a “beautiful new winery on the Silverado Trail just north of Meadowood Resort, owned by Frank and Kathy Dotzler, Mark Pulido and Donna Walker and Thomas Rivers Brown – a who’s who of Napa Valley for sure.”

Can you hear the cult wine circles in Napa going “IT’S NOT FAIR!?”

Well, in the rummage left behind by their numerous long ransacked new releases with massive scores, we found a few cases remaining of this hidden gem, untouched by the wine press believe it or not, gave the dust on the pallet a good wipe and popped a bottle.

Pale straw, with a platinum vibrance where it warps the glass. Dizzyingly aromatic at even the first whiff, with bergamot, cantaloupe, honeysuckle and a hint of hazelnuts. Once sipped, it reveals a refreshingly zippy and impressively textured personality, balanced in a yin and yang coexistence. Abundant minerals and all manner of citrus fruits carry into a long and classy finish. Perfect to wash down a plate of butter poached scallops and fresh peas served over a bed of saffron risotto, mmm.

Side by side, this would make a $600+ La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc blush. They are after all close as two whites can get in philosophy, terroir and blend, each grown on their equally sought-after Pessac-Leogan and Napa Valley plots.

The head spinning perfume of Musqué clone Sauvignon Blanc from Oakville’s Tench (right next door to Screaming Eagle!) and the rich viscosity of old-vine Sémillon from Calistoga’s historic Tofanelli, hence the name Stone on Stone, stack up for a stunning white. Such pedigree!

Which brings us to the original fair asking price of $40 and your one-day opportunity to snag this unique beauty at a mere 20 bucks and change. Sincere apologies in advance for not having an endless supply, so while it lasts.
