Mission Codename Waves of joy
Aaah, that sweet Von Holt Heintz, such a not-so-distant SOLD OUT memory before the clock hit noon PST, oh well…
For that eternal thirst for CLASSY Chardonnay, the ultimate afternoon solution has arrived, with just a tad more stock from those massive swirling bodies of saltwater we love, Oceans Churning!
THIS is why we do what we do. Scouring our backyard and unearthing a fantastic micro-production, single-vineyard Carneros Chardonnay from the Sangiacomo family’s Green Acres Hills nonetheless! Beats anything we ever found as a kid with one of those metal detectors, that is for sure. And you will NEVER find this at your big box wine shops!!
Oh yea, and obviously we worked out a massive 60% discount for you. Because, you know, we love ya.
Can’t you feel it??
Earlier this year, in a world that seems long lost, our quest to level up our wine offers took us to the Garagiste Festival in Sonoma. At this gathering of ultra-small production wineries, we tasted through dozens of wines and found some absolute stunners. Unfortunately, many were such small production, we could not work out a deal to satiate our hordes of thirsty operatives. BUT a few had just enough to fill our needs.
This was one.
Owner Raj Iyer is a true garagiste winemaker, full of passion and he exudes a calm, friendly personality. His wines absolutely captivated us. Simply beautiful inside and out. Sourced entirely from the historic Old Wente clone, grown in a prime block in the Green Acres Sangiacomo, it has all the hallmarks of a top tier Chardonnay.
The ever-discriminating Prince of Pinot gave it 93 points and remarked on the “inviting aromas of lemon, buttery brioche, vanilla and floral bouquet”. Simply captivating aromas - really, we could smell this all day. And while it’s delicately oaked with older barrels, it never tips into the ultra-rich, cloying style. Ripe, but balanced, baked pears, crème brûlée, roasted pineapple all on full display with some minerality and playful acidity keeping it all moving along.
No wonder Dan Berger, for Napa Valley Register, described this as “sublime… an extraordinary attempt to replicate what the Chablissiene have done for centuries” as it truly is a dead ringer for Premier Cru Chablis!
Stunning stuff that easily drinks right at its $50 price tag. Of course, at our smashing good price of $20 there’s really nothing comparable.
93 Points – PinotFile
“Moderately deep golden yellow color in the glass. Inviting aromas of lemon, buttery brioche, vanillin and floral bouquet. Nicely balanced and clean and bright in the mouth, with appealing flavors of citrus, baked pear, vanilla creme and butterscotch.”
90 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“A melodious medley of tropical fruit and peach, this is a robustly ripe and oaky expression of the site in a warm year. It’s round and medium bodied, settling in the glass to show balance and refinement. A crisp green apple note shines on the finish.”
