Mission Codename 1001 nights

The 2013 San Leonardo SOLD OUT fast, really fast. Who knows when we can offer an other vintage of it.

So how do we top that?? Easy. We drop this 100 point Brunello into your lap for a dollar per point.

Now, we forgot to mention something crucial about the San Leonardo. Behind all the raves and hype, we overlooked the winemaker, Carlo Ferrini, whom Jancis Robinson calls “one of the most celebrated of the winemaking consultants that have been so vital to the Italian wine scene – possibly the most famous, as three times he has been awarded winemaker of the year.”

And what do GREAT winemakers pamper most? THEIR OWN! Enter Giodo. Ferrini’s passion product. His baby.

This is a wine for when only the best will do. 100 pointers are rare, under $100 even rarer, but discounted 100 pointers are true unicorns that warrant 100% of your time, attention, and budget.

Antonio Galloni’s Vinous aptly underlines why this is such a compelling offer, “Carlo Ferrini, the renowned Italian winemaking consultant that worked with well-known Brunello estates in the past (Casanova di Neri, Castello Romitorio, Poggio Antico, Talenti) started his own project in Montalcino in 2002 when he found 2.5 hectares of land suitable to making great Sangiovese wines. Ferrini’s first vintage was 2009, from which he made 3,000 bottles. Today the estate owns 5.5 hectares (2.5 hectares of Brunello and 3.5 of IGT Toscana Rosso, also planted to Sangiovese). The vines are located between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, essentially near the Lisini estate and in the Sesta area. He planted his vineyard with what he believes are the best Sangiovese clones he has worked with over the years. The estate’s name, Giodo, is an acronym of his parents two names, Giovanna and Donatello.”

We were lucky enough to secure a few cases for you, and tasted a bottle to assure great provenance. It rendered us utterly speechless, so we’ll refrain from compromising your undivided focus on what the experts have to say.

Sheesh, how can you beat a “magic carpet” descriptor anyway??? It’s an absolute, unequivocal must have for anyone who loves Brunello - or anyone who wants to experience the ethereal power and elegance of Tuscany’s finest.

Finally, there’s VERY little to go around. Run, don’t walk to the checkout button.

100 Points – James Suckling

“Carlo Ferrini, one of Italy’s most respected consulting enologists who makes a small amount of his own Brunello from his pristine vineyards in southwest Montalcino called Giodo says ‘The 2010 was an amazing vintage but then came 2015 and 2016! We will be debating which of the two years are better for years in the future.’ This is a splendid Brunello, showing extraordinary purity of sangiovese character. Cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Full-bodied with incredibly integrated tannins that seem like they are not there. But they are and are comprehensive on the palate. Great depth and agility. Just floats on the palate. Magic carpet. Drinkable, to enjoy the magic, but needs three or four years to come around.”

97+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The Giodo 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a real stunner with a tight, finely knit texture that transcends and ultimately unites both the bouquet and the mouthfeel, putting them on an even playing field. This gives the wine a broad sense of unity and wholeness that is the key to withstanding the aging process one would expect to submit this bottle to. At this young stage, Giodo’s Brunello reveals blue flowers, wild berry, camphor ash and delicate spice. This wine shows a compressed sense of intensity that expands quickly after you lift the proverbial lid off the box. As it breathes in air and takes on more volume, it also leaves a deeper impression on your nose and palate. It closes with a simple note of sweet cherry that makes for a perfect postscript. Drink 2021-2040.”
