Mission Codename Twist of fate

When it comes to national treasures, we think of things like Nicholas Cage, Betty White, and Fenway Park. If you enjoy Pinot Noir, you’ll have Willamette Valley on the list. As Oregon’s premium wine country destination, it’s also is a true epicenter of great Pinot Noir. Right alongside Burgundy, California, and perhaps New Zealand as the handful of regions that give arguably the most sensual grape on earth the justice it deserves.

That’s why we’re ELATED to bring you a $65 single vineyard, estate grown Pinot for just $25. That’s a massive %62 drop!!

The sub-AVA of Chehalem Mountains rising over the town of Dundee is home to a crème de la crème group of Willamette wineries. Lachini’s immediate neighbor to the north is the venerable Bergström Vineyard, for example, and other formidable names around include Elk Cove, Rex Hill, Ponzi, along with providing innumerable small sites sourced by the likes of Antica Terra and Beaux Frères.

A relative newcomer to the region having planted their first vines in 1997, the Lachinis soon joined the select few whose harvests were highly sought after in the area, starting to appear on prominent labels before launching their own in 2001, and embracing Biodynamic vineyard practices in 2008.

A twist of fate brought Matthieu Gille, descendent of a Domaine from Nuits-St.-Georges with roots back to 1570 (whoa!), into town for the annual International Pinot Noir Celebration when he fell in love with the region deeply enough to become the winemaker for Lachini in 2014, ushering in a new era here with the top-notch fruit already in hand. Since, their scores have been rising while keeping a low profile, which is how we were able to steal you this deal.

The truth awaits in the glass…

A brilliant fire brick red turns mildly garnet to the broad rim, shining and gleaming as swirled. The nose is all about sappy raspberries, fresh spearmint, and earthy spice nuances blending seamlessly. Shows aptly balanced on the palate between fine-grained, pedigree-rich oak tannins etched within pure red fruits. A very long finish showcases thrilling complex nuances of chocolate-coated strawberries, orange peel, and cardamom. In pursuit of what may pair best, begin by sourcing the wildest mushrooms you can, foraged, or via your gourmet shop. You’ll need them!

Double 92 points, and a mere $25. Make it yours, while we still have some up…

92 Points – Wine Spectator

“Pinot heads may recognize Lachini for its wines from Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains. A wine with precision and nuance, highlighting dark raspberry, bittersweet chocolate and savory accents that build toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2028.”

92 Points – International Wine Report

“A terrific effort form this exciting vintage in the Willamette Valley. Earthy tones grip you immediately with white truffle shavings that combine with the lovely dark fruit aromatic profile. The palate reveals wonderful terroir driven characteristics, with peat moss, and forest floor accents that line the bright red and dark fruits. The citrus component at the back end wonderfully complements this fantastic wine. While outstanding in its youth, this should also evolve well for at least another decade. Drink 2019-2029.”
