Mission Codename Runaway Train
You already know we creep it real here at The Wine Spies world headquarters. So, when we tasted this frighteningly delicious Zinfandel, we hustled hard to make a deal. With a hefty near 70% OFF, naturally, you must be MAD to pass it up. BOO-yah!
Maybe you recognize Dean Bordigioni from his work with Annadel Estate Winery, a longtime favorite over here with his Team Vino heritage labels. (Vroom, Vroom!) He brings that hard-charging, life-in-the-fastlane take to winemaking and that’s on full display here. Fruit comes from Los Chamizal (a Deerfield Ranch favorite vineyard too) in Sonoma Valley where beautifully terraced vines thrive in the volcanic, mineral-rich soils at 800 feet elevation. This wine comes from “our block”, at the very top.
Like a runaway freight train, this wine comes barreling down on you with such boldness and intensity that your helpless little taste buds cannot help but surrender in ecstasy. Fair warning though - if you like your Zins on the lighter side this is NOT for you. Hedonistic is the word here. Once you get it in the glass, prepare for an onslaught of raspberry jam preserves, caramel, snickerdoodle cookies, and brambly blackberry to flood the senses. Juicy as heck, with almost sweet fruit, but it also has nice soft, resolved tannins which bring a nice polish to the picture. Opulent and bold, it’s an ideal choice for these upcoming winter months when you want something dark, rich, and soul-warming.
We loved this creepily delicious Zin, and you will too. So, do yourself a favor and load up on this treat because you know those other Operatives are already goblin it all up!
