Mission Codename Krakatoa

There’s explosive deals, and then there’s THIS.

We wish we could tell you the source of this incredible juice but a lengthy NDA prevents us from that.

If I could pour this in your mouth, you’d buy a case. And if you knew the vineyard sources you’d buy twice as much. Simple as that.

What we can tell you is that we’re erupting like Krakatoa and blowing the top CLEAN OFF the Napa Cabernet game. The upper half of the price - it’s vaporized, gone, kaput.

In other words, that $55/bottle just crumbled down to $25!

Mind you, this isn’t an ordinary deal. Here’s how it went down.

Agent Rhone’s good friend Bobby Moy rang him with a question. “Hey I got access to some extra Cabernet sitting in barrels - PRIME source. I’m going to bottle it. You guys want some?” Our spidey senses tingled. It was a rough year for new releases in 2020, as wineries took a hit in foot traffic and on premise sales. Some wine destined for labels with fancy embossing, ultra heavy bottles, and heavier prices needed to find another home.

We happily adopted many cases of this beautiful discovery.

Now, two things you should know about Bobby - first, he’s one of the nicest, most down to earth people I’ve met. A terrific husband and father of an adorable 2-year-old little boy. He normally makes wine for his Chiron label which he started with his father, Mark.

We’ll spare his complete life story, so here’s the cliff’s notes. He got into wine by way of Jeff Ames introducing him to Thomas Rivers Brown. Working alongside the notorious TRB is like a dream come true for a young rookie winemaker. And like a giant sponge he soaked up every nuance he could. And he got exposure to some prime vineyard fruit. From there he landed at Coppola, before transitioning to his own label full time.

So fast forward a few weeks and he drops off a sample. We tasted it alongside some heavy hitters - Grassi, Jones Family, etc. YUP that’s the stuff! Tastes expensive. It goes toe-to-toe with the big guns. It’s Napa Cabernet just how you like it - straight from the warm valley floor, soft, expansive and mouthfilling with all manner of plump, juicy blackberries, black plum jam, sweet vanilla and cocoa powder. No hard edges, just straight up body on frame construction from front to back. Ultra crowd pleasing stuff.

Not a lot of this one, unfortunately. You know what they say… to the victors go the spoils! Have a great Saturday everyone!
