Mission Codename Power Stroke
When we sold the 2016 vintage of this potent little fruit bomb rarely have we ever had so many reorder requests since. Well, once again we’re back with the 2017 this time, at an EVEN LOWER PRICE. Slipping it in for under $20 - just incredible.
It not only packs that same 6.7L Power Stroke V8 type of raw power as its predecessor but also layers in even more oomph.
Fans of light, delicate reds please come back another day! We could not be more blown away by the sheer opulence and pure over-the-top Californian style on display here. Showy and without much sense of shyness or reservation - it reminds us of certain “special” wines from prominent Napa producers. Minus the high price tag.
That makes sense actually because owner/winemaker Derek Beitler grew up in the cellars of a Napa Valley legend that shall go unnamed - a little digging and you can figure it out. Eventually, he headed up insanely successful labels - Carne Humana, Skyhook, and nowadays pushing the power-quality-value envelope with Cerro, sourcing prime fruit from two top-secret Rutherford and Oak Knoll vineyards.
An inky, dark pour hints at what’s to come – which is a PROFOUNDLY concentrated and lavish wine that MUST be tasted. The blend changes from year to year, and this one checks in with 50% Petit Verdot, 40% Petite Sirah and 10% Zinfandel. The depth of hyper-ripe explosive fruit can hardly be described - OOZING with all manner of blackberry jam and blueberry cobbler, baked plums, Ghirardelli cocoa nibs and licorice flood your palate with mouthcoating opulence. It’s rich like Warren Buffet, with a chewy and dense body and enough complexity to keep even the most jaded connoisseur interested. In short, it’s a total treat for anyone who loves that unabashedly hedonistic “California” style red - for a price that’s almost unimaginable.
After the resounding popularity of previous vintages, we aren’t sure how long this will last again, but we are sure it will not fare the better half of the day. If you like ripe, rockin’ red blends this will BLOW YOUR MIND!
