Mission Codename MC Silica
“Slice it like a ninja, cut like a razor blade.” - Vanilla Ice, 1990
Maybe… just maybe Ice was talking about Sancerre and NOT his mad tight flow.
Our ears perked up when we saw the word Silex. Our eyes widened at the 96 Point review. And when we found out we could offer it at 40% off? Now the party is jumping!!
So, we popped the cork and there it was. Crisp, intense, edgy, and precise. Pure Sancerre, pure Silex - that unique mix of quartz and flint, which makes the world’s most distinct Sauvignon Blanc.
One sip and we’re sold. Drinks WAY above its original $59 retail. Cut that by 40% Wine Spies style, and you get the white French buy of the year.
Being a 2017 helps naturally, an “outstanding” vintage for Loire Sauvignon Blanc according to Wine Spectator pointing out that “whites are pure and precise.”
In the glass it’s a pure, green-tinted white gold fading to a broader, crystalline rim toward the edge. On the nose, there is great intensity of fruit and aromatic richness, with grapefruit, Lucy Rose apple, and minerals. It offers up deep succulence on the mid-palate, in excellent balance with its fine, chalky texture. Faint nuances come in on the finish, of toasted brioche fill in the citrus, lime, and lemongrass lingering long. As far as pairings go, there simply is no seafood dish under the sun that would not be enhanced by this!
There is no denying that Villebois is truly “The Loire Sauvignon Blanc Specialist” as they have carved a reputation of being so. Appearing in the most recent Wine & Spirit’s Top-100 list as the ONLY Loire winery says it all. From specific single vineyards of great pedigree, like the rest of their Cuvée Terroir series, it’s the quintessential essence of Sancerre, the ubiquitous jewel of the Loire Valley.
Don’t miss this special treat, you deserve it!
96 Points – The Tasting Panel
“This delicious Sauvignon Blanc is named for the silex (flint) that comprises 20% of Sancerre’s soil; by capturing and reflecting heat from the sun, it aids early ripening and contributes steely acidity. Lush aromas of lemon biscuit and salted caramel precede a lean, flinty entry that’s balanced by creamy tones of key lime custard.”
