Mission Codename Joyful tidings
Merry CHRISTMAS!
We hope you got everything you wanted, and have some killer wines planned to enjoy with your roast ham, prime rib, or lo Mein. Over here the kids are fired up on way too much maple syrup and pure excitement. Meanwhile, we’re fortifying with 20 oz. Bloody Mary’s for the adults.
But tonight? You know we’re popping one of these open!
In case Santa didn’t drop any ambrosial nectar-like this down your chimney, we’re here for you with a pristine, scintillating, HEADY single-vineyard Russian River Viognier. 92 points from Wine Enthusiast to back it up, and the best price on the planet, naturally.
We’re like Goldilocks when it comes to the Viognier grape. Some are too fat and flabby. Others are meh, one-dimensional. Too oily. It’s a tricky one to get right, but when it’s done well, man, it rocks us to the core.
This one, from a small family winery, comes from Catie’s Corner is owned by the Kunde Family and farmed by the Duttons, appearing on prominent labels like Copain and Joseph Swan. That means the fruit gets serious love, and it shows because this beauty gave us all the feels - it’s popping with orange peel, dripping with honey, zipping with lemon curd, and smothered with warm peaches and apricots. It has a little weight, and that classic Viognier mouthfeel - somewhat oily and viscous – yet with vibrant acidity too.
We know you’re probably ankle-deep in wrapping paper, or lost under the mistletoe, or whipping up a killer meal but PLEASE take a moment to get yourself another treat today.
Ok - have a wonderful, joy-filled rest of your Holidays!!
92 points - Wine Enthusiast
“Opening in floral aromatics of jasmine, this barrel-fermented and aged white is textured and high in acidity, with lovely layers of grapefruit and pear. The fruit is nearly candied in a light richness, offering just enough weight to keep it lively and substantive.”
