Mission Codename Totes our bestie
Bestie: someone you love and absolutely can’t live without.
Sullivan is totes our bestie in Napa. You already know this because you saw one after another smash hit from them in 2021.
And now we’re busting out one of their BEST ever. A big, burly, dusty, busty Rutherford Cabernet with 94/93+/93 points from the pros.
For anyone else in the world, the price tag is $110. But you’re smarter than everyone else, because you’re getting this email and here, we have it at a price that’s too low to print (we promised them). With a discount that’s difficult for the brain to comprehend.
A few words from the experts to set your expectations:
Jeb Dunnuck says “This is brilliant stuff, offering full-bodied richness, terrific tannins, and outstanding length.”
Wine Enthusiast writes, “Substantial in both weight and breadth, it coats the palate.”
The Tasting Panel continues, “This delivers exactly what you want from a top-quality Napa Cab.”
Sullivan Vineyards has been around for decades, with a rich history of making some outstanding wines, and they’re surrounded by some elite company - Caymus, Staglin, Quintessa and Scarecrow to name a few. While under the radar, their wines have remained monumental since 1972. The equally monumental mid-century modern winery is a landmark by famed architect John Marsh Davis’ whose other masterpieces include Joseph Phelps, Rutherford Hill, and Chateau Souverain.
With our first sell-out Sullivan feature, we pointed out how dear this property is to our Curator Agent Noir, 20 years ago this gorgeous tiny Rutherford estate was his first stop to set off his California wine career. It was easy to fall in love with Napa Valley, hanging out with the late Jim Sullivan, sipping gems back to the ‘70s from the family cellar.
At $110 this bottle runs right alongside its pedigree cohorts, but at our secret price, NOTHING competes. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for sure. Anyways, the wine… dense, with dark purple and black fruits, blackberry, cassis, cigar box, that telltale Rutherford dust, and some powdered cocoa, clove, and plenty of toasty oak. This truly is a top-shelf Napa Cabernet, just how you want it.
But if you do want it, please don’t hesitate to secure a few bottles. A sell-out is all but guaranteed…
94 Points – The Tasting Panel
“Rich yet sleek and elegant with plum and blackberry as well as good depth and balance. This delivers exactly what you want from a top-quality Napa Cab.”
93+ Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“Plenty of ripe currants, cedary spice, and graphite notes emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in 50% new French oak. This is brilliant stuff, offering full-bodied richness, terrific tannins, and outstanding length.”
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“With 13% Petit Verdot, this full-bodied wine is thick in tannin and concentrated layers of dusty currant, blueberry, and mocha. Substantial in both weight and breadth, it coats the palate in toasted oak and a touch of dried herb, leading to an equally powerful finish. This will do well in the cellar; enjoy best from 2027 through 2032.”
