Let’s back up before we dive in. Want to know a little secret about the wine industry?
Sometimes a restaurant chain or someone with deep pockets recruits a winemaker to make them a killer wine - but they back out, or as the case is today, the restaurants sadly can’t take delivery anymore.
Which is GREAT news for (us) you.
Because you roll with Wine Spies, and we have our finger on the pulse of the industry which means we snatch up those “lost” projects. The key here is that the ‘otherwise involved in much more famed wines’ fruit sources that appear on cult bottlings need to remain unnamed, but such secrecy is a fair price to pay to bring them to you at a wild, wild discount.
That’s what happened here, where we scooped up a marvelous 2014 Reserve Napa Cab that was once destined to sell for an easy $84. But for you, it’s a piddling $25 today. Twenty-five bucks.
Thandel Cellars’ Reserve hits all the right spots. Packed and stacked with ripe red fruit and spice. Think cherry compote and red currants, a hint of licorice, with some cedar and savory spices dusted on top. All carried along on a river of soft polished tannins, and nicely integrated, luxurious tasting oak. This, at the price you can steal it for, will elevate your weekday grilling to new heights, no doubt.
You cannot go wrong. Unless you miss out. That would be a huge bummer. Move swiftly and secure yours because IT. WILL. SELL. OUT.
