Mission Codename Flow with the go
Do you like big boy Rutherford Cabs - like Scarecrow, Hewitt, Round Pond, etc.?
But maybe you don’t like paying $100+ for the pleasure-filled opportunity of enjoyment? Were you able to grab some of that equally compelling Frisson Rutherford Cab we had earlier this week? You’ll need this as well, and if you missed it, don’t let this one get away too…
The name ‘Mascaret’ is a phenomenon in which the leading edge of an incoming tide forms a wave. And ‘Fluire’ means ‘to flow.’ So, let’s go with the flow.
Appropriately named, since this juice will crush your palate under a tidal surge of power. And the fruit flows with a riptide-like current of intensity. So, if you like these kinds of high intensity, get pitted, hard-charging Cabs - HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS.
Because the excitement doesn’t end there.
Of course, we crushed the price into oblivion. Like once $122, now down to $39. That’s a solid $83 in savings. GNARLY!
Mascaret is a small project making a handful of very focused Cabs from arguably the 3 best sites in Napa in Howell Mountain, Rutherford, and Oakville. Their secret sauce is a combination of access to prime fruit and having Kevin Morrissey at the winemaking helm. The guy brings serious experience, starting his career at THE Château Pétrus of all places, before moving to Stags’ Leap Winery and then spending another nine years with Ehlers Estate (side note, you must try Ehlers if you have not). Also, if you had our Erikson & Caradin or Verdon wines, you already know the style. He’s connected, too, and sources fruit from top vineyards around Napa Valley. Bonus points for his dedication to heart disease research, for which he donates profits regularly.
That style is straight-up raw power and opulence. BIG, dense, and chewy flavors coat your palate with teeth-staining richness. Black cherry, dusty blackberries, sweet pipe tobacco, spice box, and licorice swell to the top with nuances of violets and vanilla and sweet oak lingering around. A river of chalky tannins carries into a finish that never seems to quit. This is 100% the real deal.
Never reviewed, yet it drinks like those scored right in the mid to high 90s, easily. We’ll leave you with what Wine Spectator wrote rating the harvest the highest since 1997 as “a spectacular year, with wines that are rich and dark, but detailed, restrained in style and very terroir-driven.”
No doubt this will be one of our benchmarks for value this year. Treat yourself!
