Mission Codename Cellar Stocker #1

Welcome to our latest and greatest Cellar Stocker event!!

Today is for the collectors or anyone who wants to sample the very best that Napa has to offer.

We’ve been scouring the promised land, begging, pleading, cajoling our way into a stockpile of vinous treasures, and today, finally, we’re ready to let ‘em loose. We’re rolling out multiple incredible features during the day. One after another, until they sell out.

And the store is stocked full of small lots of other rare finds. We’re talking Cask 23, Insignia, Eisele, Maybach, Opus One, Silver Oak, Chappellet, Diamond Creek, and more! There’s too much to list, so here - take a look for yourself. Just a handful of bottles on some of these, and they will sell out in minutes. Move quick to secure your spoils - at the world’s best prices, of course.*

Let’s get this party started with a certified powerhouse. Die-hard collectors know and love Dominus - a much-lauded estate that won Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine of the Year award in 2018.

But if you don’t want to plonk down like $300-500 for the flagship, try this instead - their entry-level 97-pointer - highest rated Napanook ever - at a low as it can go $73.

It might be their ‘second’ wine, it’s anything but.

The pedigree here is off the charts. Of course, it starts with the Moueix family of the pearl of Pomerol Château Pétrus fame (plus La Fleur-Pétrus, Trotanoy, Hosanna, etc.) Christian Moueix came to Napa in the 1980s to start a new project with Napanook Vineyard, originally planted by George Yount in 1838, that became Dominus. And he earned massive praise and recognition from day one.

Antonio Galloni’s Vinous points out “while most of the attention focuses on the flagship Dominus, readers should not overlook the Napanook” while for this vintage Jeb Dunnuck adds *“this beauty should be snapped up by savvy readers.”

YOU are savvy, otherwise, you wouldn’t be getting this email.

A recent Wine Enthusiast study of “California’s Top 10 Collectible Wines” ranked Dominus #2 just below Screaming Eagle, and above Scarecrow, Opus One, Monte Bello, Harlan, Colgin, Insignia, because “Moueix first fell in love with Napa Valley as a grad student studying enology at UC Davis, during the 1960s. Dominus Estate, a minimalist stone winery in the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, is his monument to that moment… one of the most long-lived and classically styled wines in California, mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Collectors have invested in Dominus for a generation, but it’s recently appreciated in value almost as fast as Screaming Eagle.”

We could wax poetic about Dominus all day, but the reviews alone should give you a great idea of the potential within this investment-grade collectible.

Roughly 30 cases are all we got, will go fast.

97 Points – James Suckling

“Gorgeous aromas of plums and currants with some wet earth, mushroom, bark and incense undertones. Woody. Medium-to full-bodied with such beautiful depth and length. So subtle and long. Fabulous harmony. One of the best I have ever tasted. Drink or hold.”

94 Points – Jeb Dunnuck

“The 2018 Napanook showed incredibly well, with fabulous crème de cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and green tobacco aromas and flavors. With terrific ripeness, medium to full body, and ripe, yet polished tannins, this beauty should be snatched up by savvy readers. It should evolve for 15 years or more. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, aged in 20% new French oak.”

93+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“This is an example of a cool ripening vintage, Dominus’s technical director, Tod Mostero, said. ‘It was a late season—everything was late from budbreak onward. We started harvesting on October 1st, then we got about an inch of rain, so we stopped, then we started again on the 9th and continued to the 15th.’ Proprietor Christian Moueix added, ‘We thought the elements of the 2018 vintage were very refined, and we wanted to play on that in the wine. It was the wines with a lot of delicacy and precision that went into the Dominus blend this year.’ The grace, purity and precision of this 2018 Dominus is absolutely captivating right now. And yet, poised on the brink of perfection, its promise of something more with time in bottle is at the heart of its allure. Embrace this wine for the very fact that it doesn’t give you everything up front and all at once. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Napanook leaps from the glass with vivacious scents of fresh blueberries, black cherries, crushed blackcurrants and redcurrant jelly with hints of pencil shavings, red roses and dusty soil plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound, allowing glimpses at loads of mineral and savory nuances among the taut black and red fruit notes, supported by fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.”

93 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“The 2018s at Dominus are very pretty, balanced wines that are all about finesse… I expect the wines will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. It was a late harvest here, as it was throughout the valley. Picking started on October 1st, twelve days later than normal, and wrapped up on the 15th, with virtually all of the fruit coming in on the second week of that window. Dry farming, gentle extractions and minimal use of new French oak are some of the cornerstones of the approach employed by proprietor Christian Moueix and winemaker Tod Mostero in crafting these exquisitely beautiful Cabernets. The 2018 Napanook is every bit the charmer it was last year. Succulent and racy out of the glass, the 2018 is such a gorgeous wine. Silky tannins and generous fruit give the 2018 so much immediacy and appeal. Black cherry, plum, menthol, spice and licorice are pushed forward. Drink 2025-2033.”
