Mission Codename Birthday Rôtie
“The ever-restless Stéphane Ogier is making some of the finest wines in the entire Rhône Valley.” – Vinous
That’s right. The finest of the finest. You’re looking at it. Monumental Côte-Rôtie Réserve, a beacon of classicism, balance, and refinement.
Jeb Dunnuck, writing for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate agrees that “Stephane Ogier has raised the bar in just about every way possible for his estate in Côte Rôtie: purchasing new vineyards, replanting existing sites, working hard to develop an AOC for Seyssuel and building a completely new cellar - all the while continuing to produce a bevy of brilliant wines. Today, the estate is unquestionably in the top handful of domaines in the Rhône Valley.”
Unquestionably!
Of the 200 cases that originally made it to the US, only a few remain at the importer, with whom we have a great relationship, enough to let us have at this gem at a price that’s never been seen before.
Revisiting Jeb Dunnuck recently for his own namesake publication, he raves “I was able to taste the 2015s from the incredibly talented Stéphane Ogier twice, once during my visit at the estate… These are ripe, polished, sexy wines from Stéphane that show the purity as well as the opulence of this great, great vintage… This estate is certainly at the top of its game and readers looking for some of the most profound Côte Rôties out there are advised to get on this estate’s bandwagon.”
A true collectible from one of the greatest winemakers on earth, do not miss out!
95 Points – Wine Spectator
“Features dark currant, fig and boysenberry preserve flavors that are densely concentrated and supported by authoritative grip built on graphite and cast iron accents. Ganache, black tea, singed bay leaf and juniper notes add detail and range through the finish, where latent minerality lurks in reserve. Best from 2025 through 2040. 200 cases imported.”
94 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“Deep ruby. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes fresh dark berries, violet, olive paste and smoky minerals, with a suave floral topnote. Offers densely packed black and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that stretch out slowly as the wine opens up. Displays excellent definition on a very long, lively finish that’s given shape by chewy, building tannins. Drink 2024-2032.”
