“From one of the greatest vintages of the century so far, the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Kranachberg GSTK opens with a deep, clear, intense and substantial, very elegant bouquet of crushed stones, fresh mango and passion fruit aromas. Located between Gamlitz and Leutschach, the Kranachberg is the most magnificent site of the domain. The chalky sands with light mica and high manganese content give the wines an unmistakably cool and spicy aroma with a very particular fruit expression. A Kranachberg Grand Cru (GSTK) always shows depth and muscles and develops a lot of power and length on the palate. In combination with the pronounced terroir notes, this is quite challenging in its youth, but it will inspire with complexity at the ripe age of 10 and more years, with cool, elegant, spicy and finely smoky fruit aromas and a fine cassis tone. Intense, and enormously rich on the palate, with quite a bit of extract and fine yeast lees, this is a dense, full-bodied, juicy Sauvignon of enormous suppleness and density, but also captivating elegance. With the acidity only appearing at the finish, this is a long-distance runner that will possibly live forever. A great, very distinctive Sauvignon Blanc from one of the finest terroirs in South Styria.
