Mission Codename Crown jewel

Some Zins push the limits with hair-raising alcohol levels and syrupy ripeness. This is NOT one of those. This high-elevation grown, single-vineyard Zin dishes out class and flava like Alton Brown rapping a Drake song tableside.

Also, did you see the price? For about 40% off release, it drinks like something much more expensive.

Grist Vineyard powers some insanely consistent and delicious Zinfandels by Turley Wine Cellars, Gary Farrell, Ousterhout, and Day (Failla!) Grown at 1,100 feet above sea level from vines planted in 1970, it’s organically farmed in red volcanic soils under that hot Dry Creek sun. In other words, prime breeding ground for complex, juicy, tempting Zin.

Grist sits atop Bradford Mountain - the tallest peak of the coastal range along the border of Dry Creek Valley just west of Healdsburg. The vineyard gets its name from the old Grist Mill on the property. Originally planted over 100 years ago, the vines are head-pruned, which helps maintain low yields and acidity during ripening. The vineyard sits above the fog line, which increases the hours of sunshine. The cool afternoon breeze from the Pacific just 15 miles to the east keeps the grapes cool, which helps achieve a more delicate style of Zinfandel.

This will entice the Pinot lovers too, without sacrificing any of the ripe, lush fruit the Zin crowd loves. It glides across the palate with juicy red raspberry and cherry cola. A sensational perfume of strawberry jam, licorice, and scorched earth intrigue the senses. Full-bodied with an amazing texture, as well as a voluptuous mid-palate and blockbuster finish, it arrests the palate for easily over a minute. All this Zin for just how much exactly? Make room in your stash.

No reviews on the 2018 YET. Previous vintages have consistently hit in the 92-96 range, however, and we think this could be the best one ever! Rewind a few years back to when this wine made it to the Wine & Spirits Top-100 and beguiling praise confirms “this is the genius of great California Zinfandel: that it can feel simultaneously striking and simple, its pleasure more immediate than intellectual, irresistibly compelling.” Without a doubt this brilliant vintage shares that same DNA.
