Mission Codename Cellar Stocker #2

Oh dear, that Rauzan-Ségla went FAST.

A lot more to come… voila, Bordeaux #2!

Late to the game? RECAP: For weeks we’ve been gathering small allocations of some of the finest and rarest wines from Bordeaux. From Saint-Julien to Saint-Émilion, Margaux to Pomerol, there’s something for everyone. All to be had at crushingly low prices, as usual. Some are in such short supply they will only be seen like the briefest of UFO sightings in remote Alaska. If you are one of the lucky ones, congrats! But, when they are gone, they are gone-gone. Vintages range from 2010-2019. Prices range from under $50 to $300+ for a most well-known First Growth. And scores on scores on scores. Our feeble minds can hardly add them all up!

Where were we? Pomerol! And it ain’t your daddy’s… L’EVANGILE, baby, with a DECADE in the cellar!!!

Robert Parker sets the record straight: “This magnificent estate owned by the Rothschild family appears to be the number one challenger to the supremacy of Petrus, one of its neighbors.”

Ahem, did you say Petrus, Bob?

We found only ONE comparable bottle of the same vintage available out there for, GULP, $4,330. L’Evangile for $159? Are we back to the 1980s?

Excuse us while we race you to the finish line for a few bottles, been working HARD so we deserve it. Don’t worry though, for those fast enough, this freshly landed from the Château library lot was - give or take - 100 bottles.

Ready, set, GO!

92-94 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“The 2013 L’Evangile is one of the more textured, layered wines of the year. Winemaker Jean-Pascal Vazart opted for fermentations at lower temperatures than in most years, with three pumpovers a day and total of 29 days on the skins, which is quite long for the year. Yields were 27 hectoliters per hectare, the lowest since 2003. Mocha, cloves, plums and black cherries meld together in a wine with considerable richness and vivid, expressive fruit. The 100% new French oak is impeccably integrated for a wine of this age. Raspberry jam, wild flowers and sweet spices linger on the close. This is a terrific showing, especially for the vintage.”

93 Points – Wine Spectator

“Not shy, with charcoal and bitter cocoa notes, accented by plenty of tobacco details. The core of dark plum, currant paste, and fig flavors pulls all the elements together through the finish. A frankly muscular style that is both ambitious and surprisingly successful in this vintage. Best from 2018 through 2028.”
