Mission Codename Every rose has its thorn
Consider this fair warning…
93 points, made by a 100-pt winemaker (with Château Pétrus on the resume) at 68% OFF.
Normally $90 from the winery. You get a 3-for-1 deal today!
That’s the recipe for a sell-out.
The thorn on this otherwise blooming rose? There’s simply not enough to satiate the throng of thirsty Ops about to storm the site.
We know from past experience.
Because once upon a time we brought you the Erikson & Caradin “Craftsman and Wolves” Cabernet, a similarly styled, similarly massively discounted wine. Then came their explosively popular Reserve Cab.
And every last bottle of those vanished in hours.
Then the emails asking for more came flooding in for months… well, today we’re back with an EVEN BETTER (we think) sequel.
Production is tiny, just a few hundred cases, using fruit sourced from a couple of rows in two vineyards, one in Atlas Peak, the other in St. Helena, that must remain unnamed. The aforementioned winemaker - that’s Kevin Morrisey who has the chops with Petrus (!), Ehlers Estate, Etude, and Stags’ Leap Winery on his impressive resume. Nowadays he’s pulling no punches with Erikson & Caradin.
This decadent combination of 68% Cabernet, 22% Merlot, and 10% Petite Sirah will bring you to your knees. Formidable and lush, with dried plums, cherry cola, blackberry pie, toasty mocha, cigar box, and vanilla. Seductively rich and soft on the palate it’s all the better when you realize what you paid for it. Use that extra dough to cop a couple New York strips. Tossed in a cast iron skillet with tons of butter and rosemary and you’ll be living the dream.
Terrifyingly easy to drink. From the rockin’ 2019 vintage. And that price!? Sheeeeesh.
What more can you ask for??
93 Points – James Suckling
“Aromas of black cherries, plums, fresh herbs and fresh mint. Medium-to full-bodied with velvety tannins. Succulent black fruit with light dried-citrus character. Earthy herbal notes as well. Best after 2025.”
