Mission Codename Parting is such sweet sorrow...
âMy bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.â - William Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet
Among the long list of things that are better in twos⌠weâll put Romeo and Juliet near the top. And not just the famous love-you-to-death Shakespearean couple.
THE WINES, obviously.
Together they bring a grand total of 193 points. Out of 200. Double the drinking the pleasure.
Double the pri- waitâŚno. Thatâs not how itâs going downâŚ
Together these would set you back $240 on a normal day. But itâs Tuesday at Wine Spies HQ. Tuesdays are for tacos and saving outrageous amounts of money on killer wines. Specifically, $145 to use for whatever else you want.
Maybe you bought one of these from us in the past. If so, you already know. These wines simply crush it.
Diehard Napa Cabernet fans already know Beau Vigne - whether through us recently, or from when they splashed onto the scene in the early 2000s with huge scores. Robert Parker labeled them âone of my favorite wineries.â and theyâve amassed countless 95-100-point wines. Taking over Kirk Venge after the 2018 harvest, today they have 100-point winemaking stud Julien Fayard (Lafite Rothschild, Smith Haut Lafitte, Melka, Quintessa, Realm, Covert Estate) running the show⌠and man, heâs just crushing it.
Romeo - sourced from select top vineyards in Rutherford, Oakville, and St. Helena. A knee-weakening smorgasbord of chocolate-covered cherry, roasted coffee, black licorice, blackberry, and exotic woods. Or, as the review put it a âbig, broad, teeth-gripperâŚresplendent with dark red fruitâ.
Juliet - entirely from Atlas peak vineyards. Morello cherries, kirsch, crushed stone.
Finally, Romeo unites with his eternal love, Juliet. In one irresistible, inseparable pack. You know what happened when we tried to split the atom, like - do not try it at home.
You could easily pay $90, $150⌠or more for a single Napa Cab with this kind of score and pedigree. As the great playwright said, âparting is such sweet sorrowâ - donât let this slip away - otherwise, youâll have to live a real Shakesperean tragedy if you miss out.
97 & 96 Points â The Tasting Panel
âRomeo: Seamless. Black velvet-hued, polished red with aromas of mocha-espresso and dried violets. Seamless. Black velvet-hued, polished red with aromas of mocha-espresso and dried violets. The fruit is from high elevation vineyards, spending 21 months in 80% new French oak. With some Malbec and Petite Verdot blended in, this big, broad, teeth-gripper evolves into a glamorous mouthfeel, resplendent with dark red fruit. Devilâs Food cake, anise, and pencil shavings thread through a field of mountain brush and turned earth (97). Juliet: Grainy tannins wash across the palate with melted dark chocolate and a fever pitch of black raspberry and mulberry. Broad paintbrush strokes of dried lavender, maple, and balsamic keep the wine concentrated and juicy (96).â
