Mission Codename Cellar Stocker #6 - as the curtain falls

Aaahhh… been a MAD run. Like totally berserk.

Ségla, L’Evangile, Talbot, Yquem, L’If… one heavy hitter after another…

Now as the dust settles, we wrap this glorious Cellar Stocker event up with a classy, sassy, 2010 Margaux.

A 2010 nonetheless! Stuff of legends. Like Margaux, also the stuff of legends. Yet UNDER $100? With big scores, like triple the 95 points? Get outa here! Way to end on a BANG.

Giscours is a Third Growth, quintessentially Margaux from head to toe, with an illustrated history going back 7 centuries. A most recent Decanter highlight points out that “Château Giscours, like so many flagship Médoc estates, has ebbed and flowed with the times, dependent on cycles of new investment to keep the property and wines in tip-top shape… after much toil and investment the Margaux cru once again looks to be in a pretty good place.”

And what to expect with more than a dozen years in the cellar? Finesse and elegance, which is exactly what a Margaux classic is known for. Decanter defines the style as “on the more masculine side of Margaux with an inherent power… innate freshness in all vintages, and remarkable staying power…”

Voila! Just a dang barrel’s worth of this one too sadly, as in NOT ENOUGH.

95 Points – Decanter

“Whereas 2005 has the power, 2010 has power and elegance combined. The nose has a dark fruit, floral and mint complexity, the palate a firmness but finesse of tannin and plenty of fruit, zest and freshness. The energy is apparent, the finish long and clean. It’s a wine that should age gracefully over a long period of time. The ‘as good as it gets’ pick. Drinking window 2021-2045.”

95 Points, Cellar Selection – Wine Enthusiast

“Giscours shows an initial character of great style and elegance. The shining fruit and concentrated tannins follow, making it both a seductive wine and one with a long-term future.”

95 Points – James Suckling

“Aromas of mint and currants with hints of fresh herbs. Then turns to plum jam. Full body, with well-integrated tannins and pretty fruit. Long and caressing. This is really outstanding. Better in 2017.”
