Voulez-vouz Vouvray??

Obviously! We love us some Vouvray. It’s fun to say. To drink. To share. To ENJOY all year long. And we haven’t had one in at least 1,000+ days, so there’s that.

So, yea, we’re loading up on this crisp white brilliance. Especially at this price - $19!?

Vouvray is of course the Loire Valley appellation where the world’s best Chenin Blanc is made. These are heady, age-worthy, and wonderfully expressive wines. The Gautier family (not to be confused with the clothing designer) Domaine traces back to 1669 and has been making beautiful Chenin Blanc from their limestone-rich terroir for decades.

This one is BONE dry while incredibly floral and aromatic on the nose. Wet stones, lemongrass, ripe pear, Granny Smith apple, a slight herbaceousness. Mouthwatering acidity, it has the zing, the bling, and just sings with fruit. Everything we want in Chenin, right here before your eyes.

Eric Asimov for The New York Times had highlighted Vouvray Secs like this as Chenin Blanc’s purest renditions with An Easygoing Grape, Looking for Love: “Chenin Blanc achieves its most captivating forms in the Loire, in well-known areas like Vouvray… I believe fervently in the beauty of Chenin Blanc… Could it be that it will pick up some new devotees? I would find that gratifying.”

So would we, Eric, if all were this yummy!

When this lands on your doorstep, here’s the deal. Order your favorite Thai food - pad thai, larb salad, drunken noodles, green curry. Doesn’t matter. Open the bottle, take a sip, take a bite, and alternate in succession until your brain circuitry overloads with hyper-satisfaction. Or until you get food, baby. It also pairs wonderfully with all kinds of fish, butter and cream sauces, shrimp, oysters, and Thanksgiving. You pick. You got enough to make this a regular thing, right?

Like we said, we don’t get a lot of Vouvray around here. Good on you for grabbing some while it’s here. Nothing lasts forever though…
