Those GAJAs crushed it earlier this week…congrats to everyone who scored some. You’re in for a treat.

But if you missed out, or just have a never-ending need for more Nebbiolo…we feel you, and we have your back.

HOWEVAH…. finding cheap Nebbiolo that drinks like a dream is no easy feat. So, when Paolo Manzone himself came to the office and shared his wines a month ago, we kept our fingers crossed. And oh man, did he deliver the goods!

But Manzone who you say?? Forbes advises: “Given the quality of the wines, the setting, and the graciousness of this couple, I guarantee you will have an exceptional experience, as you taste the wines of Paolo Manzone and wonder why they aren’t more celebrated.”

So, celebrate we do.

And they continue to rave: “Throughout the Barolo zone in the Langhe district in Piedmont, there are hundreds of producers. Many are famous, even world-renowned, but the majority are not as well known. Most of these producers craft excellent wines, yet for one reason or another, don’t receive the recognition they deserve. This is the story of Paolo Manzone, one of those truly notable vintners.”

While the winery is smack in the middle of Barolo’s prized Serralunga d’Alba commune, Mirinè comes from a tiny vineyard in Sinio just outside it, at 1,300 feet elevation. The vines are 35 years old, and this was vinified following the Cru Burgundy school of thought, resulting in a hauntingly elegant wine that is very approachable at youth, yet with depth and complexity that are inseparable from Serralunga.

They are such a well-kept little secret that looking for ratings and reviews brings little back if anything. Popular blog Barolista “dedicated to good, great and gorgeous wines” of Piedmont has a note for a previous vintage that nails it: “A fine, earthy nose with notes of rosehips, dried cherries and crushed rocks. Deep with a fine backbone. The taste is tight and balanced with a fine dry character and notes of red cherries, dried flowers, and some mushrooms. Very, very good… if only I had brought a car…”

Guess what? We brought a TRUCK - stacked up all they could spare, and drove off with a BIG smile, with the joy of being able to bring you a ROCKING BABY BAROLO for just 25 bucks.

Honestly, just like Burgundy, not many under-the-radar gems that over-deliver remain in Piedmont, you must carpe the diem when you hit one, while they last.
