This is straight-up irresistible stuff, and we’re not surprised. After all, it’s made from a 50/50 blend of two vineyards - Anthem on Mount Veeder made famous by Jeff Ames and Chaix in Rutherford surrounded by Phelps, Inglenook, and Morisoli powering the eponymous Chaix Cabernets, and the family has been making wine from this site since 1890. It’s a killer site, with all the strong, dusty Rutherford character you crave. And Anthem Vineyard on Mt Veeder - well, you might know them from the ever-popular Anthem Cabs we’ve offered in the past (one of our all-time most re-requested, btw.)

The heavy bottle and gold wax top set the expectations up. The juice inside? It’s rocking and rolling, chock full of ripe red fruit, candied cherry, those dark chocolate-covered blueberries, with melted red licorice with savory spices and dusty tannins. Powerful! Lush, creamy, ripe, and ready to please. How we got any at this price is something we’re still wondering about…
