Mission Codename Sweetie Pie

Welcome to Sweet Thursday!

We set today aside to give this underappreciated genre of fine wine a closer look with some amazing examples. Plenty of awesome, highly rated, collectible options here in the Store.

As for the feature… a nectar of the Gods for 25 bucks, with the press recognition to back.

If you have a sweet tooth and can appreciate world-class golden goodness, LISTEN UP!

Irresistibly fruity, perfectly balanced with juicy acidity, and absolutely meant for those who welcome opulence… even better, opulence you can afford! If you’ve never had a Jurançon but are a fan of Riesling, Tokay, or Sauternes, you owe yourself the discovery.

Hear what Wine Spectator says: “Of all the regions of the southwest, Jurançon is perhaps the most distinctive, its reputation built on viscous and richly flavored sweet whites made mostly from the Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng… they will reward your search with their unique flavors. These are wines from a beautiful land, backed by centuries of winemaking traditions that are quickly being modernized for the 21st century.”

Certified organic, this wine is from south of Pau, near the Pyrenees Mountain range in the South of France. This region is known for both dry and sweet wines from varietals such as Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, and Courbu. The sweet wines from here remain free of botrytis but undergo passerillage, a process of drying and raisining the grapes resulting in a fresh yet complex, and balanced style.

What is on the nose can only be described as captivating and seductive. Imagine white peach, honey, and lilacs. On the tongue, it strikes the perfect balance with its bright sweet freshness. Not at all cloying, it’s the kind of elixir you will find yourself going back to sip after sip, impossible to stop. The silky texture dances with rich flavors of dried apricot, pound cake, peach pie, and subtle nutty tones. Truly a beautiful wine and a lovely companion to blue cheeses, pâté, pastries, nuts, and fruits be it fresh, dried, or candied.

With not much made or imported, this sweetest of deals – pun intended – will go fast.

93 Points – Wine Enthusiast

”This floral wine offers great fruits as well as hints of honey. Produced from late-harvest fruit, the wine has concentration as well as a good balance between freshness and richness. Drink from 2022.”
