Mission Codename MMXII
Now come with us on another Classified mission!
Like others before, this ventures deep into the cult Napa Cabernet territory. This one has no scores, but previous vintages boast nothing but 96-98 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate with praise such as “big, juicy, compelling… intense flavors… wonderful freshness… fabulous purity and length..” Released at $225, and hardly available anywhere for less, as close to complete Napa Cab as they come.
And it would not be here before your eyes at our price unless we kept the secret tight to our chest.
That said, we can lead you to water. Or, as it may be, Cabernet. This is the highest order wine from this producer. In fact, it’s the ONLY Cab they make. Winemaker Dave Phinney is the mastermind behind it, and that alone should narrow your choices down quite a bit. It’s also renowned for being from one of the oldest vineyards in Napa. Ok, time to stop because we’re already spilling too much information…
We can tell you all about the wine itself. It’s inky, culty, and heady. Oozing with dried blackberries, shaved dark chocolate, new leather, raspberry jam, and pencil lead. Quite polished, round in the mouth, and lavish with that “iron fist in a velvet glove” thing going on.
Among the sentiments from other peers who reviewed this wine: “there is not a better Cabernet on planet earth.” We tend to agree… Did we say $100 OFF?
Can see the big smile on your face when you unwrap this one.
