Mission Codename "It's the time you spent on your rose that makes it so important." - Le Petit Prince
“A terrific model for why Bordeaux produces the world’s greatest wines, combining intensity of flavor and power without heaviness, something virtually impossible to duplicate anywhere else in the world.” – Robert Parker on Malescot St. Exupéry
We heard you! Where’s the Bordeaux?!
We’ve been suffering from a lack of Bordeaux lately but WOW, what a treat today! Collectors and newbies to the scene alike - here’s a rare chance to score a second wine from an esteemed 3rd Growth from Margaux. Their flagship is hugely popular, always high scoring, and quite reasonably priced on its own. But still, it goes for 2-3x as much as this one.
With 93 and 92 points and locked in at $36 this is INCREDIBLY WELL PRICED to put it mildly. It overdelivers in a BIG way
When highlighting “The Extraordinary Wines of 2018” Vinous picked just SIX from Margaux. This being one, adding a glowing report that “Malescot has never been this racy or supple in the early going. Atypical and yet striking.”
For this Wine Spies EXCLUSIVE offering, we tasted MANY 2018s and this stood out exactly because of being “atypical and yet striking” in every imaginable way. Rich, complex, and elegant, concentrated and intense with layers of cedar, blackcurrants, plums, and cherries, offering uncommon depth, finesse, and refinement for a young Margaux. Not only is this a great wine under the shadow of the Grand Vin as a rarely seen second that echoes the quality of the first, but it’s also at a terrific price in comparison to other Margaux in the vicinity. Really floored us for its QPR as the glowing reviews allude to it. Just wow…
So where do these facts put this $36 – today only – steal of the century gem?
In your carts and Lockers, hopefully by the case!
93 Points – James Suckling
“This is so drinkable and pretty with fine tannins, as well as currant, spice, cedar and light chocolate aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied and very fine-tannined with a long and persistent finish. Second wine of Malescot. Just a couple of years of bottle age will make it all the more attractive to drink. Try after 2023.”
92 Points – Fallstaff
“Strong ruby garnet, delicate ocher reflections, broader edge. Nuances of pickled cherries, fine forest berry confit, floral touch, very delicate wood spice. Medium complexity, heart cherries, pleasant sweetness, round tannins, freshly structured, mineral and persistent, a versatile food accompaniment.”
