Mission Codename Worthy
You already know what time it is!!
THE Clos du Val! Stags Leap single vineyard! 96 POINTS from Wine Enthusiast. 96 from Dunnuck as well. Add to that a couple of 95s by Wine Advocate and Vinous, and stack with 94+ on Cellartracker, too where a ‘Bestdamncab’ wrote “this is a $100 bottle and worth it.”
Normally it sells for $150+ actually, but what if we told him he can score some for $59??
A pillar in the Napa Valley fine wine scene, founded in 1972. A powerhouse that joined with Chateau Montelena and other California wineries to dominate and win in the Judgement of Paris in 1976. One of the most reliable trusted Napa producers on the map.
Yup, that’s the one… that San Francisco Chronicle defined as “one of the grande dames of the Napa Valley… returning to its roots, focusing on what it does best and making smaller amounts of better quality wines.”
This wine hails from the historic, near-perfect 2016 vintage. Hirondelle (meaning swallow in French) is their signature estate vineyard, where swallows nest and patrol the vineyard for pesky bugs. It’s one of their best efforts and a near-perfect example of what Napa Cab can be in all its glory. It’s “rich, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and deep” and jammed with blueberry, dark chocolate, cassis, and exotic woods. An easy contender for “bottle of the night” at your next gathering. And nobody needs to know what you paid for it!!
No longer $150, no way! Just a handful of cases that’ll be GONE in a flash, that’s a promise!
96 Points, Cellar Selection – Wine Enthusiast
“This rich red opens with dark chocolate and blueberry flavors that envelope the supple, lengthy tannins. Cedar, dried herb, black pepper and clove accent the dense fruit, finishing long and expressive. Enjoy 2026-2031.”
96 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hirondelle Vineyard is all Cabernet from a vineyard in the Stags Leap region. Its inky purple color is followed by a seriously good bouquet of blackcurrants, black raspberries, crushed rocks, spice, and cedarwood. It’s rich, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and deep, yet is still slightly tight and closed on the palate. Give this beauty 3-4 years of bottle age and it will keep for two decades or more. It’s a brilliant bottle of Cabernet. Drink 2022-2042.”
95 Points – Robert Parker Wine Advocate
“Deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hirondelle Vineyard needs a little coaxing to reveal layers of very pretty black and red currants, black cherries and wild blueberries scents with underlying hints of new leather, dried mint, aniseed and fenugreek plus a waft of black olives. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a lot of character, harmony and depth, with the savory-accented black fruits superbly framed by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and refreshing. Drink 2020-2036.”
95 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hirondelle Estate Vineyard is fabulous. Black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, new leather, spice, tobacco and menthol flesh out in an unctuous, medium to full-bodied Cabernet full of personality. Drink 2022-2036.”
