“The identity Sosie developed led them to their choice to partner with Atelier Melka.” – Vintner Magazine
THIS is the day to swoop down like a vineyard redtail hawk and snap up a few. You might not know this boutique winery, but you need to! You might not know the varietal either, but you need to!
Scott MacFiggen and Regina Bustamante, the husband-and-wife team behind Sosie Wines started their adventure into fine wine by traveling to France for work. The relationship evolved (hello workplace romance!) and so did their appreciation for well-crafted French wines.
Fast forward to a series of brilliant decisions. 1) Start a winery in Sonoma 2) Use Old World techniques to pay homage to the French wine style 3) Hire Kieran Robinson as consultant winemaker who cut her chops at Pierre Gaillard and Cakebread Cellars and was recently succeeded by Philippe Melka! 4) Keep it small and focus on making wines in the “California Sun with a French Soul.”
All good decisions! Now it’s your turn. At over 40% off- it’s not a hard one.
Roussanne is native to the Rhône Valley and is known as the rich, elegant sister of Marsanne. It’s growing in popularity, thrilling aficionados as we see more and more varietal Roussanne all over the globe.
The wine is distinctive with brilliant richness and minerality. Aged in 22% new oak, this fresh-as-can-be beauty showcases notes of honeydew, poached pear, apricot, and subtle baking spices. In true Rhône style, the aromas are elegant, and the high acidity allows it to develop beautifully.
No reviews or ratings for this vintage but awesome scores on previous ones with Wine Spectator finding a 2017 that is “Distinctive, with a swirl of caramel to the poached pear, peach cobbler and apricot flavors. Despite the richness, it finishes crisp and vibrant, offering long, lingering notes of spice and toast. Well-balanced.” and a 2016 that Wine Enthusiast praised “This wine is from a single site, planted in volcanic soils at 750 feet in elevation. Aged in neutral oak, it is floral and earthy, with a rocky mineral edge joined by apricot and ginger flavors within the silky texture.”
The 2018? Tastes even better to us.
Get on it!
