Mission Codename Bale Out!
Lords, Ladies, Operatives near and far!
If I was King of the world, I would decree that everyone drink more Petite Sirah!
And THIS would be the Kingmaker of the varietal.
A mammoth, juicy, STACKED and PACKED powerhouse from Spring Mountain. From a master of winemaking who ran the much loved (and missed) Terra Valentine for years. And I’d crush the price from an aristocratic $80 down to a proletariat $30.
A decree of 65% OFF for the people!
It always has sexy flavors. Pairs well with rich, hedonistic foods and because it has deep, INKY color with high levels of anthocyanin (an antioxidant), it is basically like taking vitamins!
AND if I got all my ways as King, I would also make Spring Mountain District the home to my castle. The appellation is EPIC and recognized for only the best of wines. The high elevation and steeply sloped vineyard blocks make vines work hard for their beauty and do they ever.
Bales Creek Estate is a boutique project very few know about. Until today. It’s made at none other than one of Spring Mountains’ finest gentlemen. Sam Baxter of Terra Valentine fame. He is a true rockstar of the region and knows his way around this varietal too. While Cabernet rules on Spring Mountain, under the radar red varietals like Petite Sirah are rarities here that blow minds equally. The only other Petite Sirahs up here are made by Terra Valentine, Ridge, and Behrens Family.
The wine? It’s brooding and deep. Inky in look and bold in flavor. Polished and round. Supple and sweetly fruited. Aromas of chocolate and blackberry preserves with notes of spice and red plum. On the palate, the mouthfeel is sweeping and broad. Uber velvety tannins and rich minerality fill each corner of your mouth. Lush blueberry pie, supple white and black pepper notes along with sweet fresh tobacco flavors. Truly a must have for collectors and lovers of Napa’s tiny, hidden gems.
It’s hard to find much intel about this wine, so good luck even proving it exists. They were quietly made with love and were almost lost in the pages of time before we uncovered the few cases left. Vinous points out that “2015 is shaping up to be a vintage of opulent, voluptuous wines with real personality and character at the top end.”
Trust your Agents of Wine and join us on this one. If you have a pulse, you will LOVE it…but very little was made, and we don’t expect it to last. Get moving!
