Mission Codename Lucky 7
Happy Easter Operatives!
We’re on the hunt every day, and sometimes we find the vinous equivalent of the GOLDEN egg. Nobody needs to know you didn’t pay $160 for this premium Napa Cab, but you might raise a few eyebrows if you do share what you actually paid…under $40?!
Normally we LOVE mysteries, being spies and all…
But this one. We’re going CRAZY trying to guess the winemaker, they JUST. WON’T. SAY. Lips sealed. We tried every modern and antiquated persuasive method known to mankind and nuh-uh, they will not budge. From how good the wine is and that kind of secrecy, guesses can be narrowed down to a few rockstars really… be it Brown or Erickson or Keplinger or Melka or Welch or… you get the drift.
Poston Crest Vineyard? That fruit source too is a mysterious bit, an off-the-beaten upper valley hideout amongst rolling Calistoga hills, surrounded by some names we know well, along that golden Chateau Montelena to Jones Family corridor. It’s got great terroir and history going for it, that’s for sure.
Then there’s the Clone 7 element as the next clue of greatness. Single clonal 7 Cabs are rarities, as it’s one of those exceptionally powerful heirloom selections that are seen rarely, and used sparingly to elevate blends. Chimney Rock, Chappellet, and Meteor have been brave and adventurous enough to bottle it as standalone 100% takes like these folks have done.
Then we dig our noses into the glass in search of more leads. The big, cassis and dark chocolate-scented bouquet has a whiff of vanilla, but primarily relies on powerfully rich, ripe aromas that explode. There is no letting up in the mouth, as it’s exceptionally concentrated, full-bodied, with plush tannins and bright acidity. It is gloriously rich and full, while approachable now, with upwards potential to age a decade or longer. While it will be around for many Easters to come, good luck resisting it next time you grill.
The final clue? That price. You’ll taste every drop or penny that deserves to go along with that original $160 tag. With a crushing 75% OFF dropping the price below $40, it’s like finding that GOLDEN EGG.
And the final catch? Not sure there’s enough for everybunny, so hop on it!
