Mission Codename Limboland
*“3-6-9, damn you fine…
Get low, get low (get low), get low (get low), get low (get low)”*
We’re getting LOW, low low like Lil’ Jon.
With the price. We’re too old to be twerking. You never know what muscle will act up.
What’s the going rate for Rutherford Cabernet these days? Let’s take a look.
- Pestoni $75
- Nickel and Nickel $95
- Sullivan $109
- Hewitt $130
This, too, was in that price range at its original $95 but obviously, we worked our magic and brought that WAY down to $40.
Which means this is one of the lowest-priced Rutherford Cabernets on the world wide web. What else would you expect though?
Opal Moon, owned by the Bonneau family and made by the 3rd generation vintner John Bambury, has as of late, been leaving us moonstruck with their quality. As they like holding wine back to release until ready, these wines are often with a pleasantly aged character, masterfully crafted in a style that falls between modern, ripe Napa counterparts and a Bordeaux from an outstanding harvest.
This has all the power and finesse you crave, with a rich core of explosive fruit. Dark and juicy, savory and spicy, it has an expansive core of red and black fruit. Crushed blackberry, red currant, cassis, and dusty cigar box… a nice hit of toasty oak and some fine-grained tannins carry into a lengthy finish. Just spectacular at this price.
Discovering that it’s 95% from the tiny Garvey Family Vineyard in the heart of Rutherford partially explains why it’s so damn good. Just off Whitehall Lane, this prime property falls right beyond Grgich Hills and south of Dana Estates - talk about hailing from the RIGHT spot!
That’s it. You get a $100+ quality level Rutherford Cab at this price; you take it. The only question is, how many??
