Mission Codename More Morzilla
Fear not, pleasure-bent Pinot lovers! Devotees of that rich, palate-rocking, plush style - GET IN HERE. Don’t think twice either…there’s very little to go around.
Morgado Cellars is back, with big wines and big scores - 95 POINTS from Jeb Dunnuck and all that hedonistic gut-punching power you crave! A total blockbuster for nearly 40% OFF.
That Kimberly Hatcher is a force on all ends. She comes from Russel Bevan’s school of winemaking perfection. The SF firefighter-turned-winemaking protege learned more than a few tricks from the Master, and it’s 1,000% on display right here.
Sourced from one of the preeminent vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills heralded by Bevan, Kosta Browne, Chateau Boswell, Sandhi, and Chanin it comes jam-packed with dark black cherries, raspberry coulis, chocolate-covered blueberry, toasty oak, and “smoked earth” as Jeb says. This dark and shadowy Pinot is nearly impenetrable to light and surely not for those who want some delicate Burgundian reiki on their tastebuds, but rather a deep tissue percussion of flavor.
You can spend 2-3x as much and get something that falls short of this.
But seriously, not much is available. The race to zero already started and we give this about 2 hours until it sells out.
95 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“The 2018 Pinot Noir Rita’s Crown comes from a great vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and is a powerful, full-bodied, concentrated wine that’s very much in the style of the estate. Smoked earth, chocolate, brambly herbs, and savory red and black fruits pack the nose, and it’s already drinking nicely, yet I suspect it will evolve for at least 4-5 years, probably longer. Drink 2021-2027.”
