Mission Codename Lionheart
NOTE: Magnums do not fit in lockers Granted, Lancaster Estate is one of the top jewels of Alexander Valley. And their winemaker, David Drake has been a fixture there since he took a job as an intern in the year 2000. Over the years he worked with a number of top winemakers like David Ramey, who helped hone his winemaking chops. And based on this sexy bottling, he’s dialed in.
This wine is full-bodied, full throttle, and FULL of opulence. This gives us legit Shafer Hillside Select of Caymus SS vibes.
It’s that good.
All kinds of blackberry, black cherry, and dried plums. Are melted Nilla wafers a thing? Because this has melted Nilla vibes. And so much more! Burnt sugar and caramel, cocoa, and sweet pie crust with a dusting of baking spices. Soo smooth and velvety on the palate. Hedonistic and thrilling in every sense. An incredible effort, seriously, and an outstanding wine to bust out for any special occasion dinners you might have coming up.
Again, one important caveat - unfortunately magnums cannot be added to Lockers. The size required to ship makes it impossible - so all orders placed will ship independently from any Lockers you have.
That’s it - grab one or five and open them in good company. You’ll be rewarded with heaps of praise for your good taste in wine from your astounded friends. And they don’t need to know what you paid - unless you want to brag.
96 Points – The Tasting Panel
“A lush plum nose precedes a rich and dense palate with lovely plum, cherry, and toasty oak. It’s clear that the fruit was skillfully vinified, resulting in a very special and classic wine that’s succulent, balanced, long, and, above all, delicious.”
94 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The 2016 Winemaker’s Cuvee is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and scented of cassis, blackberries and preserved plums with suggestions of cedar chest, wood smoke, dried herbs and tapenade plus a waft of charcoal. Full-bodied with tons of black fruit and wood-inspired flavors, it has a solid line of ripe tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long. Drink now-2032.”
