Baby Corton anyone?

Here’s the deal - this wine comes from a vineyard directly across the road from the mythical Grand Cru Corton, where the wines fetch an easy $100-200+. This brilliant discovery shows a similar purity and intensity - without the crazy high price tag.

Though not as weighty and tannic as its bigger brethren across the street - that actually is a good thing - when the temps climb this is exactly the kind of ethereal and juicy red you want in your glass. This is the one we scoop up by the case folks, because there’s NEVER enough Red Burgundy.

So what’s it like? The translucent ruby glows with an ethereal quality and the nose is all about the cherries - baskets of ripe cherries mostly red and some black, with some rhubarb pie, minerals, and dusty earth. That carries directly to the palate, bright with sappy ripe tannins and zippy acidity. Sneaky complexity builds up as the exquisite finish leaves a thirst for more. Chill this summer-y red a bit and savor it outdoors with lighter barbecue fare.

The 2017 vintage, despite extremely low yields, brought forth some insanely high quality fruit. The Wine Advocate reports that “the best producers’ wines were always characterized by incredible grace and succulence, and they have picked up additional depth and site-driven complexity… In short, 2017 produced immensely pleasurable red Burgundies, and I am very happy to have bought a wide selection from my favorite producers for my own cellar… the best 2017 reds seem to evoke the graceful balance and pure fruit of the best 1985 red Burgundies.”

Marius Delarche truly SHINES in this neck of the woods. They are based in Pernand, a tiny village sharing Corton with neighboring Aloxe.
