Mission Codename Simply the best
Bin Ends Friday in effect! The 98 point kind, for a price that other wines envy.
So, let’s get into it. The “Aristeo”. Translating to “best”, which seems appropriate for this towering 98 point Super Tuscan built from an equal split of Cabernet, Merlot, Sangiovese, and Canaiolo. With a split of Bordeaux and indigenous varietals in the blend, you get the best of both worlds in one fine wine. Packed and stacked to the gills with delicious fruit, and the best part… I bet you already guessed… THE PRICE!
Sadly, this Wine Spies Exclusive is highly limited. Sitting in the warehouse, at sub-$30, you can almost see the $100 Napa Cabs blushing with embarrassment. This delivers heavyweight intensity and complexity for a welterweight price. How they do it is an enigma to us, but we do have some ideas.
First the genius consulting winemaker here, Andrea Bernardini, the man of the hour. That partly explains the “greatness for less” part. A graduate of the highly regarded University of Pisa’s enology & viticulture program, he first helped put Poggio Bonelli on the Tuscan map before stints around the globe taking him to South Africa, Romania, and Greece. He returned to his Tuscan roots, to oversee Ruffino, La Bollina, and CorteMedicea! Known for his modern, forward style, he’s crushing it these days.
The inviting perfume and alluring palate boast cherries and strawberries along with the telltale savory, earthy, minerally elements. Beautifully balanced, complex and long on the finish, it’s all one could ask for from a Super Tuscan really, reminding of those flashy ‘-aia’ reds that cost 10x the humble price of $25 you see here.
Wish we had more.
