Mission Codename Sealed with a kiss
Good Pinot under $30 is hard to come by.
Now throw in 93 POINTS from Jeb Dunnuck, who wrote “brilliant… I like it every bit as much as many of the more expensive single vineyards…”
The results slim down a bit.
OH, but wait. Like a Shamwow commercial, THERE’S MORE!
Because this also comes with 100-point winemaking talents of Melka x Koschitzky. Most days you end up with a big fat goose egg of options that fit this description.
NOT today!
Wines from this rockstar team start typically at $100, some commanding $600 or even $1,000. A BOTTLE!
Seriously, this is a unicorn of a deal. From the winemaking portfolio of Atelier Melka, responsible for countless 100-point wines over the years. Westwood is the vision of Carl Stanton and David Green. Stanton founded Annadel Gap Vineyard WAAAY before the area was cool and David Green has led some of Napa’s finest brands. Think Turnbull Wine Cellars, Lancaster Estate, Joel Gott Wines, Three Sticks, Clos du Val, Brassfield Estate, just to name a few.
David and Philippe Melka also launched Dana Estates together, receiving 100 points from Robert Parker out the gate! No wonder Melka and his business partner Maayan Koschitzky signed on to make the wines for Westwood in 2017.
“We want to unlock the soul of this Vineyard with you.” – said Melka. Well, mission accomplished, gentlemen.
Jeb Dunuck agrees, calling this an “incredibly charming Pinot Noir that already offers pleasure yet has the balance to keep for at least 7-8 years.
Is this a case buy? The answer is YES.
The 2019 vintage of this wine is simply stunning, with 73% of it coming from the Annadel Gap Vineyard. Elegant yet bold. Richly textured with brilliant acidity and delicate tannins. Bright ruby red fruits play perfectly with notes of sage, forest, clove, and vanilla. This is a wine to remember!
Why would you pay 2-3x the price to get a comparable Pinot? DO NOT DELAY on this one.
93 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“The appellation 2019 Pinot Noir is brilliant, and I like it every bit as much as many of the more expensive single vineyards. Spiced red fruits, loamy earth, leather, and subtle smoke notes give way to a medium-bodied, textured, incredibly charming Pinot Noir that already offers pleasure yet has the balance to keep for at least 7-8 years.”
