Mission Codename The Bishop

Woke up with the Monday blues? The best cure is this 93pt Châteauneuf WAY for well under $30!

And not just any ole CdP but one from the knockout 2016 vintage. With the pedigree and a raving review. You saw our price, right?!

Bernard Magrez is the colossal wine mogul behind this juice. You’ll recall that he owns several classified-growth Chateâux (Pape Clement, La Tour Carnet, Fombrauge, Peyraguey) along with a cult Napa project. Beyond his French and US stomping grounds, he has expanded into nearly every corner of the world where great wines are made. Seriously, we counted 39 countries. Nobody comes close to the sheer span of work and we’re not sure how he has time for it!

He does this with help from another prolific figure - Michel Rolland as his consulting winemaker. Earner of countless 100-point scores from places like Château Pape Clément, Dalla Valle, Harlan Estate, Staglin, and Bryant Family. He’s a consultant extraordinaire with an equally dizzying number of fantastic wines under his belt from all parts of the world.

Including this Pape parallel from the jewel of the Southern Rhône.

From the deep ruby glow to the sweet, spiced cherries and berries on the seductively ripe nose, this is a quintessential 2016. Supple, balanced, and surprisingly nuanced once sipped, it emphasizes bold red and blue fruits, garrigue, mint, herbs, and minerals instead of roasted, plummy notes seen in other styles. Medium-bodied and complex, scrumptious from start to finish, a joy to drink with its soft, silky textures, lively personality, and freshness.

To sum up, it’s EASILY worth the original $75 price. At 64% OFF THAT?! It’s a “your kids can wait” while you load up your lockers kinda priority. Will fly.

93 Points – James Suckling

“This has an array of bright aromas of ripe red berries and light raspberries that lead to a very elegant palate that builds some weight at the finish with creeping, rich darker fruit and dense, soft tannins. Fresh and balanced at the finish. Drink or hold.”
