Mission Codename Gnarly perfection

“One of the great winemaking estates of not only France, but of the world.”Robert Parker

Cyber Monday is SO ON! We’ve been anxiously sitting on our hands, waiting to roll this puppy out.

A wine that needs little introduction. JANASSE VV!

A perennial high scorer, this one comes with the usual big points: 100 from Fallstaff, 97 from Wine Advocate, 96 from Wine Spectator, and 95 from Vinous.

BUT there’s one difference. You guessed it - we have the BEST price anywhere. 50% OFF RELEASE! The list of accolades here is absurd. Especially for the price you pay.

Domaine de la Janasse has become a superstar in the region in a relatively short period of time. They set a benchmark for what’s possible in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

“Full-bodied and expansive in the mouth,” says Advocate. “Lushly textured,” says Spectator. “…long, sweet finish framed by velvety tannins,” says Vinous. “…it’s going to put a smile on your face anytime over the coming 10-15 years,” says Jeb Dunnuck. And us? We say DO NOT DELAY!

The Domaine was started with an inherited piece of land in the mid-1970s by Aimé Sabon, who still tends to the vineyard and organic practices to this day. Back then, most wine growing properties would sell their fruit to the local co-op, but Sabon had grand plans. He acquired more acreage and focused on building the empire. His son, Christophe Sabon is now at the helm and manages to retain the classic CdP flavor profile with lush complexity and balanced acidity.

From the first whiff you know it’s special. Aromas of deep dark blackberries, dark chocolate, and anise on the nose mix with cinnamon and wild herbs. Lush, warm and expansive in the mouth - it slings never-ending loads of raspberry ganache, candied violets, mocha, and an array of herbs-de-Provence. The finish just doesn’t quit, and the towering structure is something to behold. Just a truly magical wine and a masterful expression of Châteauneuf. One worth putting on any holiday table and we definitely urge you to stash a few in the cellar to age.

Only so much to go around, true connoisseurs are already checking out with their share of the goods. Treat yourself while you can!

100 Points – Fallstaff

“This has a distinct crimson garnet colour, faint ochre reflections with a broad and bright rim. On the nose there is red berry jam, a touch of pickled red cherry, floral notes, delicate nougat and candied orange zest. Overall, a very attractive bouquet. On the palate, complex, juicy, sweet extract with ripe, silky tannins and subtle notes of chocolate. It seems to really evolve on the palate in a mouth-filling way leading to a powerful finish lasting for minutes. Quite simply, world class.”

97 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The magnificent 2018 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, expensive, rare, and almost always near the top of its class, continues the string of successes under this label. While a bit less expressive on the nose than the other cuvées, it’s impossibly voluminous on the palate. Full-bodied and expansive in the mouth, it’s also rich and velvety, with ample tannic structure to support its almost overwhelming generosity. A whirl of mixed raspberries and blackberries join with salted licorice and dark chocolate, culminating in a long finish that combines more-ish salinity with the dusty essence of crushed stone. Drink 2021-2030.”

96 Points – Wine Spectator

“This offers up a lushly textured set of crushed plum, boysenberry and blackberry fruit flavors scored with licorice snap throughout and laced with black tea on the finish. A subtle mineral edge peeks through the wall of fruit on the finish. For the cellar. Best from 2023 through 2038.”

95 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red/blue fruits, incense and exotic spices, and a floral accent builds as the wine opens up. Sweet and expansive in the mouth, offering lush black raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that are energized by a core of juicy acidity. Shows excellent clarity and solid, spicy thrust on a long, sweet finish framed by velvety tannins. Drink 2024-2034.”
