Mission Codename Birthday Petite
It’s Greatest Hits Day!
Today we’ll be featuring a MIGHTY 8 of the most popular wineries and wines we’ve ever sold. These vaunted perennial vinous treasures return for ONE. BIG. SHOW. A new wine drops every hour. Here’s the twist: If a wine sells out, it will stay up until the next wine drops at the top of the following hour. If they don’t, we’ll drop them into the store for the rest of the day.
It’s been an embarrassment of riches, an unrelenting torrent of class 5 vinous rapids and cascading into one deal after another.
But this one.
We’re OBSESSED.
And you better click really quick because a LOT of Ops already know and love Jacob Franklin. 93 points, $29, and we promise it will FLOOR you.
Got a few? Great. Here’s what you do next.
Set up a tasting party with a bunch of Cab-loving friends. Tell them to bring a good red. Taste them blind. Then, after everyone agrees on yours as being the undisputed winner, brag about what you paid. Regale them with tales of all the other excellent deals you got from Wine Spies. Offer a referral invite (they’ll get $20) if they aren’t already on board and collect your $20 credit when they buy.
If you’re still in the dark on Jacob Franklin, let us enlighten you. Maybe you know Elyse nowadays made by Russell Bevan. The boutique family-run winery has been a best-kept secret in Napa for a long time. It’s named after their daughter. But they also have a son. And not wanting to play favorites, they helped him launch a small winery project named Jacob Franklin. And while you can find a few varietals under his name, he specializes in one thing - making kickass Petite Sirah.
This comes from a very special site in bucolic St. Helena, where head-trained, old vines crank out some impossibly concentrated and juicy fruit. Tasted blind it gives any high-end Napa Cabernet a run - if not an outright smackdown. Contrary to its name, Petite is NOT a subtle varietal, and this is no exception. Do you like blueberry and cherry pie? Put both in a blender. Use some sorcery to liquify them into a pure extract, this is what you get. Throw in some crushed violets, baking spices and vanilla creme while you’re at it. We just LOVE everything about this wine - the plush texture, the rich midpalate, and the long finish.
Even the most jaded cult red lovers will fall in love with its massive crowd-pleasing potential. For $25 it puts a hurt on many wines costing 3-4x the price.
Reminder - today’s wines will stay up for one hour, or until they sell out. If any remain after that one hour, they will be here in the Store.
Going, going…
93 Points – Tastings.com
“Black ruby color. Complex aromas and flavors of spiced orange tea, grilled ginger, sandalwood, peppermint, blackberry yogurt, and cola with a round, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity full body and a warming, complex, long finish with notes of graham cracker crust with moderate oak flavor. A spicy, fruit-forward Petite Sirah that’s complex and lengthy; drink this stylish wine now or cellar.”
