Mission Codename Climb every mountain
BLACK FRIDAY WEEK, Acumen is back!
It starts with a mountainside Cabernet from way up on Atlas Peak. Add a top-tier winemakerā¦ mix in 95 POINTS by The Tasting Panel. Then drop it for nearly 50% OFF and weāve got a spicy meatball for your enjoyment.
Acumen was started by Eric Yuan with a singular goal: to make killer mountain wines from this rugged terroir. Forbes called them āa shining new starā and for the past decade, theyāve gained serious recognition for their classically styled, powerful mountain wines. Their roster of former winemakers is a Whoās Who of Napa all-stars - Denis Malbec, Henrik Poulsen, and finally Philip Titus - all churning out one stunner after another from this special mountaintop.
Yep, THE Philip Titus, of his familyās own plus COHO, and Chappellet since 1990, and the one that Wine Business called āone of the New Worldās most distinguished winemakers, and a master at crafting mountain-grown wines.ā
Speaking of; the āMountainsideā lineup represents younger vines for Acumen, designed to be accessible right out the gate. And it tastes just how you like it - ripe and fruity, savory and spicy too - āpossessing bags of fresh, lively black fruitsā as one review notes. Black cherries, brambleberry crisp, cinnamon, and chai spices, with some American tobacco, and toasty oak joining the caravan of flavors.
Just how we like it.
Apparently, thatās what Forbes thought too, calling Acumen āA New Shining Star from Napa Valleyā and further raving āa relatively new Napa Valley winery that I believe will become, if not a household name, at least a name worth rememberingā¦ Acumen Cabernets are much more enjoyable upon release than many counterpart wines from Napa Valley. For dinner tonight, would you rather opt for a wine that is huge and brimming with ripe fruit and big tannins, or would you prefer a first-rate wine that can actually be enjoyed now? Iām sure for most of us, the choice is an easy one.ā
Even easier at this price. While it lasts, at least!
95 Points ā The Tasting Panel
āThis Cab blended with 19% Merlot and 4% Cab Franc possesses a burly character with a satin heart. Bing cherry, cinnamon, and tobacco make an impression up front before the juicy midpoint exudes a plethora of berry notes along with mountain brush; sleek, burnished cedar; and mulberry.ā
