Mission Codename Hold my glass

$20 Sangiacomo Pinot!?

Where is that “shut up and take my money” meme when we need it? Here. It’s here.

Seriously though, finding a single vineyard (Sangiacomo!) Sonoma Pinot under $25 is like:

  • Scoring a Vince Lombardi sweater at Goodwill
  • Getting a perfectly ripe avocado for 50¢
  • Finding a pile of 2x4s you bought in 2018

Sangiacomo Vineyards has a laundry list of top-tier wineries sourcing fruit - from La Follette and Saxon Brown to Eric Kent and Domaine Carneros. DOZENS more we won’t waste time listing (85 of them to be exact!) And most sell in the $40-50+ range.

Opal Moon is owned by the Bonneau family and made by Operative-favorite 3rd generation vintner John Bambury. Today they operate mostly as a custom crush facility but vinify a small stash of their own label - like this bad boy. If you got some of the wines we offered in the past, you already know what’s up. It’s rare to see any of their releases out in the wild these days. A few weeks ago, we had brought you their Broken Rock Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it’s this charming Pinot, and who knows if we’ll be able to get anything else going forward at these stupefying prices.

Dark garnet colored in the glass, this medium-bodied effort brings a heap of black raspberry and black cherry juice up front with some sweet cola and freshly tilled earth around the back. Toasty French oak gives it that added oomph. A totally reliable no-brainer to grab any night of the week when you need that wood-fired pizza companion trustworthy Pinot to enjoy with friends and family without breaking the bank.

Don’t think too hard - it’ll be gone before you know it.
