Willamette Pinot SCORE! With triple scores to boost?!! 92 91+ and 91 points - at this price?!

We already know what happens when a great Pinot gets on here in the low $20s. So we begged for as much as possible. Maybe it was enough… Please think of your fellow Ops, and try to hold yourself back from loading your cart up with multiple cases at a time. Share the (deal) wealth!

Enough with the ‘sharing is caring’ niceties. Who are we kidding, ruthless Spies and Operatives…

This was a new winery to us, and this comes packed with utterly irresistible flavor. We thought who are these people?

Burghound - foremost experts in all things Burgundian - is one tough critic. He selectively reviews a handful of Oregon wines, including Boedecker. The winery, “founded in 2003 by the husband-wife team of Stewart Boedecker and Athena Pappas, focuses on producing wines in very small quantities. In an effort to respect each other’s differing opinions and individual palates and rather than compromise on style preferences, they ‘send each other off to create the blend we individually like the best.’ Each year they blind sample through barrels of Pinot splitting the lots into ‘Stewart’ and ‘Athena’ bottlings. They are well worth considering.”

Isn’t that an awesome way to agree to disagree for a couple?

As Wine Spectator further elaborates “Stewart prized delicacy and gravitated toward the barrels in the cellar that had light texture, red fruit flavors and finesse. Athena preferred wines with muscle, dark fruit flavors, richness and suppleness. And that’s why they make a pair of Willamette Valley Pinots…though both wines lack nothing in elegance.”

Elegance AND complexity. This 2014 has hit its prime and drinks like it will stay there indefinitely with tons of youthful energy and primary red Pinot fruits, cherries, strawberries, raspberry, and pomegranate. Being a Willamette, layers of Oolong tea, soy, and freshly tilled earth are there too. Drinking like a plush satin pillow on your palate, it goes on and on, calling all wild salmon fans, any which way from poached to poke.

Cool fact, named one of “America’s Top Urban Wineries” by Wine Enthusiast, they make wine smack in the heart of industrial Portland.

Scooped up all we could for ya of this sophisticated no-brainer, but never enough at that price!

92 Points – James Suckling

“A Pinot Noir that shows plums, cherries, strawberries and hints of lemons. Some leather. Forest floor undertones, too. Medium body, polished texture with ripe tannins and a clear and precise finish. Drink now or hold.”

91+ Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“Pale to medium ruby-colored with a hint of purple, the 2014 Pinot Noir Stewart gives cranberry and sour cherry notes on the nose with underlying underbrush, garrigue, dried herbs and damp soil hints. Medium-bodied with a taut, muscular palate of expressive red fruit and earth flavors, it has a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with great length and depth. Drink 2017-2023.”

91 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“Lurid ruby. Ripe cherry and black raspberry, allspice, licorice and pungent flowers and herbs on the fragrant nose. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors and sweetening hints of cola and vanilla. In a chewy, nicely concentrated style, showing very good clarity and dusty tannins on the persistent, spice-laced finish. Drink 2021-2026.”
