Mission Codename Pedal to the metal
Happy Sunday you fine-looking operative, you!
Sorry, but we’re on a good one today because Meyer Family is back with a smokin’ hot library Oakville offering!
There’s a pot roast slow cooking, football on TV, and I’m eager to pull the cork on this one tonight. Life is gooood.
Now for the uninitiated, Meyer Family is a super cool, in-the-know winery, and you might recognize Justin Meyer as co-founder of SILVER OAK. After Justin’s passing in 2002 the family settled up north but set their sights on revisiting Oakville Cab by purchasing the original Bonny’s Vineyard (cult status source for early Silver Oak). These wines, and in particular the Spitfire, take us back to those early Silver Oak vintages - lush and structured, highly ageable, with slightly lower alcohol than most of today’s Napa Cab.
Both Fluffy Billows and Spitfire quickly became some of our most popular Cabs EVER in 10+ years.
To say this is ‘enjoyable’ is like saying dropping the kids off with grandma on your way to a first vacation to Cabo after 12 months of lockdown with those small creatures is a ‘nice’ escape. Immensely satisfying in every way! Pure, unadulterated fruit - blackberry, red cherry, plum, along with sweet caramel and coconut undertones (Spitfire spends 2 years in American oak), a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Nothing overpowering or syrupy - think baby Silver Oak Napa - just a pure, flat out delicious California Cab that stands right up to MUCH pricier Oakville counterparts. This is THE prime definition of QPR.
Make sure you grab one for every weeknight in the foreseeable future. And for those weekends, we hid a little bit of their 2014 BON BON down in the Store… pure old vine Bonnie’s juice finished in French oak from the rare and fine winery library too, directly to yours truly.
Really, absolute no-brainers if you love big gun blue-chip Cabernets. BUT a word of caution - there’s a near 100% chance these sell out abruptly, so treat yourself, but do it with Spitfire speed!
