Mission Codename Petree-fying
Single vineyard, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir by hotshot winemaker, for well over HALF off??
Ummm, yes please.
Our luck turns into your luck today. Assuming you like graceful, complex Pinot of the finest type. How we scored this beautiful young wine, from a beautiful family at a gobsmacking good price is just plain old good fortune. The only downside, they don’t make a lot of it, and we barely scraped enough together for an offer.
With Petree Cellars’ first release only 5 years ago, this newcomer swept the 90+ scores right off the bat from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, James Suckling, and CellarTracker reviewers too, with one raving “this is a beautiful Russian River Pinot lovers Pinot.” We could not have said it better.
This is small production Pinot just how you want it. Hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and all from a single vineyard in Sonoma. Built in a big, lush style it’s rock-solid from all angles. Warm, lush flavors of red cherry, pomegranate, and blueberry compote come rolling in with a little nutmeg and toasty oak rounding it all out. Straight up delicious! Tastes like something costing well over $29, because that’s exactly what it is! Maybe it helps that winemaker Kurk Niznik cut his teeth at Acacia, helped start Caldwell, and then worked with Tim Mondavi to get Continuum off the ground.
The Confidant Vineyard? A tiny parcel barely on the map, sandwiched between heralded names like Copain and Carlisle - no wonder the fruit’s so divine.
Again, not much of this one sadly. If you’re one of the lucky ones, back the truck up.
And a heartfelt congratulations - your week is off to a great start!
90 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Juicy and savory in cedar, forest and rose, this is a hearty, full-bodied style red with grip. Traces of crushed rock, tannin and oak emphasize an overall weight and breadth, alongside a lasting note of freshness.”
