Mission Codename Bussin'
Bussin’ - when something is really, really good.
It’s hard to keep up with all the slango out there on the TikToks, the Tweeter, and the Bookface but we’re pretty sure this 100% Cabernet is 100% BUSSIN’ too.
Coombsville Cabernet!! Man, we love this little corner of Napa Valley. For years it was overlooked, but with the rise of titans like next-door neighbor Caldwell, Shadybrook Estate, Covert, Meteor, Favia, and more, the serious Cab collectors know what’s up these days.
It checks all the boxes. An “under-the-radar, just can’t find anywhere else, massive discount per usual” Wine Spies discovery.
Flat out beautiful Cabernet for almost half off.
Down to $32 from over $70 retail. How many Coombsville Cabs can you find at that price? Our due diligence shows around ZERO. Of course, do your own research.
Richard Perry is a pioneer in the Coombsville area. He bought land there in 1982, saw the potential, and has been crafting some dead serious Cabernet for years, starting under the Rombauer umbrella. He also supplied grapes to top producers such as Stags’ Leap and Dunn, before he partnered with winemaker Ken Bernards, who himself had honed his skills at Domaine Chandon in the late 80s, further developing his passion at Truchard and his very own label Ancien.
Sometimes, despite all the hard work building the vineyard, crafting the wine, and doing the legwork, a small winegrower simply needs help getting some exposure. Just check their website - the last vintage listed is 2014!
Anyhow, this is BIG and lush. Still a youngin with a long road ahead of it, but drinks just how you like it with stacked fruit, nicely integrated oak, and loads of complexity. Crushed stone, blackberry jam, cassis, cardamom, and clove. It’s all packed in there, with chalky, fined grain tannins carrying it along with a lengthy finish. Simply crushes expectations in every way.
We just wish there was more to share because sadly, a small production wine like this falls short in one area - there’s never enough.
