Mission Codename 1908, baby
Andis has the right approach. World-class winemaking + seriously old-vine, historic vineyards.
Last year we brought you the 2018. It went fast. We’re back with the 2019, only the 2nd vintage of this wine made. And it’s a beauty, with a just out the oven 93 point score by Wine Enthusiast and a vertigo-inducing price drop from $50 to $30.
Serious Zinfandel lovers won’t be disappointed.
Philippe Melka oversees Andis, while he stands atop the pyramid of Napa Valley. Having left his mark on countless cult wineries, producing innumerable high-scoring gems for places like Seavey, Lail, Vineyard 29, Dana Estates, etc., he shares Andis’ winemaking with another key consultant, Maayan Koschitzky who honed his skills at Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle. Talk about big names steering the ship. Not only that, but very few Zins exist with that kind of cultsy winemaking expertise behind them.
With plantings back to 1908, Di Stasio is the ultimate sandy, granite-filled, dry-farmed vineyard where some remarkably gnarly vines Zin thrive in the middle of nowhere. It’s one of the four heritage sites in these parts as recognized by the Historic Vineyard Society.
Raspberry tea leaf, dusty, jammy strawberries, and beautiful baking spices - cinnamon and nutmeg - they all share the stage here. It’s got that sweet pie crust + baked red fruit thing going on, all carried along on a weighty, silky texture into a finish that doesn’t quit.
At the state-of-the-art Andis winery, the most impeccable raw materials are crafted by this quality-obsessed team into perfect examples of authenticity, with just the right touch of polish to make them shine. As the word gets out (just last year Andis made it to a Food & Wine’s “21 Amazing Zinfandels to Buy Right Now” feature for example) these Zins are getting harder to find, or keep in stock.
So… get yours while it’s here at this price.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
“Complex and deep like an old-vine wine should be, with a juicy full body, firm tannins, and velvety finish.”
