Mission Codename Dust if you must

You ask, we deliver!

Few wines conjure up a steady stream of “do you have more” emails and calls than Jacob Franklin.

Could be the quality you get for the price - $28 from us, by the way. Maybe it’s the come-hither combination of juicy, fresh, ripe fruit, the savory complexity, and the sweet American Oak. Maybe it’s the pride of scoring some little-known gem from a boutique producer few know of. Or all the above?

Anyhow, if you’re new to Jacob Franklin here’s the deal. They’re one of our ultimate, must-haves. Period. We’ve been slinging their wines for a while now and they always deliver the goods.

Maybe you know Elyse where Russel Bevan helps make the wines. The boutique family-run winery has been a best-kept secret in Napa for a long time. It’s named after their daughter. But they also have a son. And not wanting to play favorites, they helped him launch a small winery project under his name where they focus on crafting vineyard-designate wines that over-deliver big time.

This comes from a special site in Rutherford, where head-trained, old vines crank out ultra-concentrated juicy ripe fruit. Situated north of the appellation, near St. Helena, off Whitehall Lane, it’s now the source for Frog’s Leap’s Petite and they shed light on the history of this tiny site: “The Leeds family has farmed their ranch in Rutherford since 1926, and the vineyard has a history of being planted to Petite Sirah that dates back to the 1880s… a classic Napa Valley combination: Hayne clone on St. George.”

Tasted blind it gives many high-end Napa Cabernets a run - if not an outright smackdown. Contrary to its name, Petite Sirah is NOT a subtle varietal, and this is no exception. It’s BIG, sure, but not like Liver King big. Much more svelte and defined, without the neck-breaking rowdiness of some other Petites.

Do you like blueberry and cherry pie? Put both in a blender. Liquify them into a pure extract, this is what you get. Throw in some crushed violets, baking spices, and vanilla creme while you’re at it. We just LOVE everything about this wine - the plush texture, the rich midpalate, and the long finish. Even the dusty Rutherford tannins, which can be harsh in the varietal, have softened into gentle, soft, sweet little things. You’ll need at least two bottles for dinner, one for while you cook, the other to pair.

We blew through the past couple of vintages FAST and this is the FINAL Leeds & Pesch by Jacob Franklin. Our #1 top-selling Petite Sirahs, by a wide margin, they ALWAYS sell out.
