Mission Codename Cultbuster
Some wines hit different.
Like this one. For the price - even double or triple - this Oakville Proprietary Red is a total stunner. Easily drinks like a $100-200+ ultra-premium bottle. Think Maiden or Matriarch. For a fraction.
This ultra-high level of quality is not surprising considering the coveted vineyard location (more on that below). A breeding ground for the absolute best - and most expensive wines in Napa Valley. And while the release price is far less than any of the neighboring wines, when you layer on our 40% discounted price… it becomes a shocking value.
TEXTBOOK is an “in-the-know” locals winery run by Jonathan and Susan Pey. Some of you savvy Operatives might recognize the name. They pump out some insane value wines up and down their lineup, from the entry-level Cab (which has received massive scores in the past) to this top-tier Bordeaux blend. Crazy to get any of this rarely-seen, normally restaurant-only top-tier wine, and almost unimaginable to offer it at this world’s best price – at least $20 lower than anyone!
This for one is as close as we will EVER get to Screaming Eagle – literally. Their Vyborny vineyard which supplies fruit for this wine shares a border with the hallowed ground of the undisputed #1 cult winery of Napa Valley. Other neighbors include Rudd and Dalla Valle. Good company for sure. Their other location across Highway 29, Holmes Vineyard, sits between Harlan and Opus One. Unlike those wineries, Textbook has never played the ultra-high-end allocations-only for-the-one-percenters game…
Still the juice inside this bottle can easily stand up to those aforementioned giants.
Dead serious stuff, it carries a medium to full body, and we’re getting some Insignia or Dominus, but more refined. Loaded with sweet tobacco, red currant, blackberry, leather, vanilla, oak, smoke, mint, and plum. Silky-smooth, expansive, opulent, and terrifyingly easy to drink now. With a medium-rare rib-eye or fillet served with Bordelaise sauce, potato gratin, and wild mushrooms. Also, perfectly ready to stay put in your cellar for another 5+ years or more.
The honest $78 release price was intended to be a statement that this is $200+ juice. At $47 though, it becomes a drop all you’re doing urgency. Easily one of the best Proprietary Reds we’ve offered in recent memory, if not ever!
A monumental no-brainer… but we hardly got enough for an offer, so don’t wait!!
