Mission Codename Mesmerizer
Happy Monday! One last shot at the cult white of the year… so far.
“A wine that Heidi Barrett does better than just about anybody in California is her unbelievably fun Moscato Azul.” – Robert Parker
As if that’s not enough of a reason to celebrate big, we have a tiny bit more of the Barrett & Barrett here in the Srore for the grabs…
You have NO IDEA how long we had been begging for an allocation of this beauty. Trouble is, it sells out fast every vintage, being THE MOST POPULAR La Sirena of all…’
This year though, we scored a few cases! Not only that but at the best price you’ll find it anywhere. It’s also consistently the highest-rated dry California Muscat by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate as well as other publications, trouble is, before they can even write about a new vintage, it’s gone. POOF!
Robert Parker describes the style as “reminiscent of northern Italy’s famous Moscatos. A slow cold fermentation renders a wine with an explosive perfume of spring flowers and tropical fruits. This is an ideal aperitif or breakfast wine, or it can be enjoyed at the end of a meal… Barrett has hit pay dirt with a lively, consumer-friendly dry Muscat… fresh, light-bodied, and crisp with seductive aromatics.”
Muscat Canelli is an Italian name for Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, which per The Oxford Companion to Wine is “the oldest and noblest variety of Muscat with the greatest concentration of fine grape flavor, hinting at orange flowers and spice.”
It’s highly perfumed with wild tropical flowers, lychee, preserved peaches, golden pear, magnolia, and crystalized honeycomb. Medium-bodied and lively on the palate, its mineral, with a focused and clean-cut mouthfeel, while somehow managing to carry generous richness, power, and finesse, all on the long, long finish. Shimmers mouthwateringly with fruitcake and spice and leaves you yearning for more. No doubt it’s the ULTIMATE desert island white and the glowing blue bottle is hypnotizing. Wait, is that a mermaid?
Anywho… we limited ourselves to one case each so that you don’t have to!
